Senior men recorded another great win against Virginia 2nd’s today, in a game started slow with only one penalty scored in the first 20 minutes (0-3 Ballyshannon). The first try came on the 21st minute when captain Paul Cassidy took a ball on 15 meters out and used all his power to break the line and score and conversion was scored (0-10). On the stroke of half time out half Ray Gallagher received the ball after some quick phases and great work from scrum half Paul Connolly, Gallagher received the ball outside the opposition’s 22 and rounded the winger to score in the corner, try converted (0-17).

Moments after the restart of the second half Ballyshannon were awarded a penalty in 10 meters from the Virginia try line, Gallagher took a quick tap and a great dummy pass fooled the defence and he scored his second try which he converted, (0-24). Virginia kept themselves involved by scoring two quick tries (10-24). Ballyshannon now upped their momentum after conceding and after a few phases Paul Cassidy kicked the ball 55 meters into space, Shannon won the ball back where scrum half Paul Connolly got on the end of it to score under the posts (10-29). The last score came from fullback Dara Keown, he received the ball on halfway and dodged 2 defenders and ran in under the posts, conversion scored (10-31).
This was another good performance against a tough and dogged Virginia side and they will now look forward to a home game this Saturday at the Lakeside against Rainey Old Boys, Magherafelt. Kick off at the Lakeside is 2.30pm.
Man of the match went to Richard Gallagher who had a superb game around the field and particularly in the line out.
Saturday’s team was:
Brian Killalea, Alan Prendergast, Paul Cassidy (C), Darren Gillespie, Richard Gallagher, Dominic Gillespie, Joe Gallagher, Darragh Tyrell, Paul Connolly, Ray Gallagher, Dermot Connolly, Tom Dillon, Joe Morrin, Shane O Donnell and Dara Keown.
Youth Rugby
The under 15’s had to regrettably cry off their game at the last minute due to insufficient numbers to travel. Training continues on Thursdays at 7pm for both under 13 and 15’s at the Lakeside.
Mini Rugby
A great morning’s rugby was had by all our mini’s at the Finn Valley Blitz on Saturday morning, it was great to see so many children representing the club at all age levels and it is hugely encouraging to see the standard being played from the under 8’s right up to the under 12’s and they are a credit to their coaches. It also was great to see so many parents from our area there also, I think we were very well represented and showed great great support and encouragement. Training as normal this Saturday at 10 at the Lakeside.
