The weather for this Harden Cup Final, played at the grounds of Randalstown RFC, started badly and deteriorated as the game wore on. The early exchanges were characterised by a lot of mistakes and an obvious nervousness on both sides, and both sides were content to hoof the ball up the field and see what came out of that, so that after 15 minutes the sides were level, at two penalty goals apiece. The first piece of really concerted play by Ballymena resulted in a try, with Paul McBride going over for a short range try after good inter passing down the right.
