A wet night at Ravenhill made conditions diffcult, but Ballymena’s superior strength and skill dominated a gallant Rainey team almost from the start of the eighty minutes. Rainey took an early lead with a penalty, but a retreating scrum and a malfunctioning lineout meant they never really got into the game. In all Ballymena scored three tries by Peter Budina, John Burns and Simon Shaw; Tim Small, converted two, and kicked two penalties,while Rainey’s only response was a second penalty to leave the final score 25-6.
