Ballyclare High School on Saturday played one of the stronger school 1st XVs at home and continued their excellent run of unbeaten matches this season. They entertained Wallace High from Lisburn and wecomed back regular fly half Jonny Holmes who gave them an early 3-0 lead from a penalty. Wallace hit back with a try from a lineout before Holmes slotted over another penalty to edge 6-5 ahead. Play was now fairly even and the home side was forced to defend but Holmes broke out to score and convert a try for a 13-5 lead. However the strong Lisburn side replied with a converted try from their pacey winger to make it 13-12 at half-time.
In the second half play remained as a close affair but Peter Ferguson broke clear for a fine solo try converted by Holmes to take a 20-12 lead. But early in the final quarter Wallace forced an unconverted try. Ballyclare managed to finish the stronger team as Peter Kennedy drove over to get the last score again converted by Holmes to make it 27-17. This was another good test for the Clare boys with strong performances from Holmes and McComb in the backs plus Kennedy. The next game is on Sat.6th Nov. at home to Grosvenor Grammar. A record was achieved on Saturday past with wins over Wallace 2nds by 15-0 and also over their 3rds 21-14. However the Medallion, U.14 and U.13 sides lost their games against their Wallace counterparts.
