Hamilton Park played host to a touch rugby tournament for local teams made up of senior, ladies and youth teams from the rugby club. Also, former regent pupils were invited to take part in the fun.

The tournament saw 9 teams turn out and play hard to try and win prizes. Prizes went to 2 teams, the winners of the “Shield,” and the winners of the “Cup.” The teams that took to the field for the tournament were made up of representatives from the 1st XV, 2nd XV, 3rd XV, Ladies team, Under 19’s, Under 17’s and under 15’s, also there was a team of ex Regent pupils who left in 2011 and 2012, and a team of exiles who are currently studying across the water, there was even a team which featured a few old faces from the club called The Underdogs, who were well welcomed back.

The tournament saw some very close fought games in the group stage, but a few teams fought their way through to finish top of the leagues and compete to finish top of the day and take home the cup. The finals were held simultaneously, with the 1st XV team playing the ex Ards Underdogs playing for the cup and the Regent Leavers facing off against the Under 19’s for the shield. Both finals were hard fought but in the end the 1st XV won out over the Underdogs and the Regent Leavers won over the Under 19s.

Afterwards all the teams were invited to stay for a BBQ and have a few drinks.

The day was a great success with all teams enjoying themselves, and the club saw a great turn out of people to support their friends and family who were playing.

Special thanks should go to Trevor Devlin, Paul Cox, David Chivers, Stephen Nutt, Gary Aston and Gary Presho for helping the day run smoothly.

Lastly, we are planning another tournament to be organised for the 1st weekend in August (the 4th). Arrangements for this are to follow soon.
