It was a busy Christmas Break with the 1st XV playing Coleraine away in front of a large crowd at the Lodge Road ground. In a closely faught and tense game the Young Toon Mens fitness and skill level overpowered the home team as they won 16-13 thanks to a try in the last play of the game.

The 3rd XV matched the performance of the 1st XV as they again continued their good run of form beating Coleraine 4th XV in another close game 8-7 on Boxing Day and not only gained 2 valuable league points but also won the Robinson Memorial Cup in the process.

Boxing Day seen players from 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th XV run off the Christmas turkey with a friendly match. Players picked their team and position from a hat which gave some great contests during the game. At tight head prop a great battle of scrummaging developed between James Cleland and Mathew Dunlop. At number 8 Ewan Strang used his bulk to try and overpower the statue of Scot Nelson.

In the back line there was great breaks by the speedy wingers of Robert Adams and McHugh and the battle of the kicking 10’s Curtis Mongomery and Peter Irvine. The Centres was a heavy weight battle with the power of Clyde and Richmond on the home team against the creativeness of Hanna and Campbell on the away side. Once through the first line of defence it was difficult to get past the fullback for each team which was hard tackling Millar against the great running lines of John Bellingham.

The match was kindly refereed by John Devlin and after a close game Nelson scored with the last play of the game to tie the scores at 8 tries each. Man of the Match and scoring 4 tries was Club Captain James Cleland who has recently became a father for the first time after wife Bridget gave birth to baby Lucas Cleland.

There was also tries for, Scot Nelson, Peter Elliot, John Richmond, Ewan Strang, Mathew Dunlop and James Campbell
