Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 5th January 2019
On Wednesday 2nd January Down High School played Banbridge Academy in a 3×20 minute training game with both teams using this run out as an opportunity to play extended squads prior to their Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Round 2 games on January 12th. Players such as Greg Hutley, Jakob Cross, Andy McCoubrey, Charlie Marshall and Josh Hanlon all impressed for the Down High School team while Alex Denvir, Adam Hanna, Jack Dorman and Hugo Bertholan put in impressive performances for the Banbridge Academy team.
On Saturday 5th January Ballyclare High School played the Rainey Endowed School team in an exciting game the Ballyclare High School team won by 41-19. The Rainey team had taken a 19-10 lead into the break before the Ballyclare High School team mounted something of a comeback in the second half.
The Ballyclare High School points in the first half came through unconverted tries from Scott Martin and Mark Jackson. The Rainey Endowed School team scored three first half tries through Bryn Davies, who touched down twice, and Rory Bradley. Harry Evans added two conversions.
In the second half the Ballyclare High School points came through tries from Thomas Ferguson, Scott Martin, Matthew McCullough, Adam Clarke, who also added the conversion, and Ewan Wasson. Mark Jackson was successful with two of his conversion kicks.
Ballymena Academy hosted the Royal School, Armagh team in a game the Royal School, Armagh team won by 14-6. A Ross McKay penalty gave the Ballymena Academy team a 3-0 lead at the break.
The Royal School, Armagh points came through tries from Peter Taylor and Romain Morrow with Charlie Worth converting both. A second Ross McKay penalty left the score board reading Ballymena Academy 6 Royal School, Armagh 14 at the no-side whistle.
Belfast High School hosted Grosvenor Grammar School in a high scoring game the Grosvenor Grammar School team won by 30-22. The Belfast High School points came through a hat trick of tries from Cameron McKimm and one try from Thabiso Madlala. Aaron Douglas weighed in with one conversion.
The Grosvenor Grammar School team points came through two tries from Josh Patterson, one try from James Lusty and one try from Josh Malcolm. Adam Moore was successful with two penalties as well as two conversions.
Belfast Royal Academy continued their recent run of good form when they defeated Enniskillen Royal Grammar School by 22-19. Adam Keed, Tom Stewart and Rob Sturgess each scored a try for the Belfast Royal Academy team with Daniel Logan adding two conversions as well as a penalty.
The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School points came through tries from Ryan Phair, Stuart Brown and Callum Smyton to which Eddie Keys added two conversions.
Cambridge House Grammar School defeated Carrickfergus Grammar School by 61-10 in a game that saw Rhys Ervine run in for a hat trick of tries for the Cambridge House team. Andrew Wilson touched down twice with Jordan McMullan, Thomas Bovill, Marcus Bracewell and Josh Mark each scoring one try. Rory McCandless was successful with his six conversion kicks while Jordan McMullan added the extras to two tries.
The Carrickfergus Grammar School points came through unconverted tries from Ewan Milburn and Liam Kaprigiannis –Green.
Campbell College, Belfast defeated the Munster Schools’ lynchpins from Rockwell College by 18-10. Rex Tinsley scored two tries for the Campbell College team, one of which was converted by Conor Rankin. Conor was also successful with two penalty kicks.
Coleraine Grammar School defeated Sullivan Upper School by 17-14 when the teams met at the Castlerock Road venue. Shaw Fleck, Cameron Leighton and Marus Poskitt scored the tries for the Coleraine Grammar School team to which Pierce Crowe added one conversion.
George Saunderson and Conor McKee scored the tries for the Sullivan Upper team to which Conor added both conversions.
Portadown College defeated Friends’ School, Lisburn by 53-0. Ethan Williamson scored four tries for the hosts with Dylan Nelson touching down for three and Jordan Robb scoring one. Adam Speers added one penalty and five conversions.
Wallace High School and St Mary’s College, Dublin played out a 22-22 draw when the teams met at the Magheralave Road venue. The Wallace High School team staged a comeback in the second half of the game having been 17-3 in arrears at the break. The Wallace High School points came through tries from Reuben Crothers, Jack Bailie and Joel Dundas with Nathan Doak adding one penalty and two conversions.
Methodist College, Belfast travelled to play Wesley College, Dublin in a game at the Energia Park in Donnybrook which the Methodist College team won by 45-12. Ethan McIlroy scored two tries for the Methody team as did Callum Davison. Max Lyttle, Adam Reid and Dan Humphries each scored one try with Ethan McIlroy adding five conversions.
