6 Nations Trophies for City of Derry Rugby Club on Wednesday

Ireland Men and Womens Rugby Teams achieved the unique distinction of both winning their respective 6Nations Trophies last season. Paul O’Connell captained the Mens Team and Niamh Briggs Captained the Womens Team with included three Donegal Women in their ranks Ballybofey’s Larissa Muldoon, Fahan’s Nora Stapleton and Moville’s Katie Norris.

City of Derry Rugby Club will have the two trophies in the City this Wednesday and they will be on display for everyone to see at the Rugby Club, Judges Road from 6.30pm to 9pm. City of Derry will use the occasion to Launch the Clubs support for Local Charity Aware Defeat Depression. The Rugby Club will have all its teams involved in Aware’s Mood Walk of the 2 Bridges on Friday 11th September to raise funds and awareness to help defeat depression and change lives. The walk starts from Ebrington Square at 6.30pm and its hoped all sports and schools in the City will get involved.

City of Derry Youths starts their Season Training on Wendnesday evening at 7pm and the Womens Team who train on Tuesday evenings will also be at the rugby Clun this Wednesday evening along with the Minis and Adult Teams. Everyone in the community is invited to come along.

Meanwhile City of Derry’s Senior Squad start training at Judges Road on this Tuesday evening at 7pm and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The players have all been on a Strength and Conditioning Program for the last two months at the fantastic new S & C Suite at the New Foyle Arena. The players have been working hard under the tutelage of S & C Coach Joe Gallanagh who has formerly worked with Munster Rugby for four years and Wigan Warriors Rugby League team for two years. It is the first time that the club have prepared for the new season with a program of this magnitude.

City of Derry are hoping to appoint a new Head Coach shortly who will be overseen by Terry McMaster as Technical Director of Coaching. The new coaching setup will see Jason Mitchel as Assistant Forwards Coach and Richard McCarter as Assistant Backs Coach. There has been a recruiting dive also in the off season which should produce some real competition for starting places in the first team.

John Burns (Back Row) & Neil Burns (Out Half) from Malone
Alex McDonnell, Steven Walker, Robbie House from Foyle College.
Graham Murphy (Prop) from Dubai
