On September, the 18^th, we are in for a big day. The 8^th Rugby World Cup tournament is about to open its doors and it promises a spectacular sports show since taking the title home can be achieved by various strong teams.

1. New Zealand, the one backed up by a formidable history?

Being one of the favourites this year, New Zealand has proven worthy of this title after two big victories (in 1987 and 2011), and after reaching the Finals for 3 times out of 7. Till this day. Although some are a bit worried about the performance of Richie McCaw and Dan Carter due to their long run in the team, that’s not to say the team won’t be able to bring the trophy home.

Chances for this to happen are very possible since many bookmakers from the UK think New Zealand will walk away with the prize, one more time. For example Betfred, has opened a betting pool with 5/4 for New Zealand to win.

England and South Africa are the next to follow on its list, with 4 and 11/2 odds, but who’s to tell what the future holds?

The Irish team really has something to brag about at this year’s championship. Names such as Rob Kearney, Tommy Bowe, Jonathan Sexton and Paul O’Connell will shake the ground in September. Just like Keith Wood did in his greater days. The media say that they lack strength in holding the opposition away and they may face some difficulties in regards to knowing each other’s position and not losing it. However, Joe Schmidt is there to keep an eye on things, so Irish fans should not worry.

3. Australia, the ones that know how to make it count?

Australians are under a lot of pressure as well, since the flashlights are pointed at them and their 1991 and 1999 trophies. The world remembers. They won the Rugby World Cup twice, yes, but most importantly they did it away from home, as guests. Same thing goes for South Africa too, winner of the 1995 and 2007 championships.

4. England, those who never sell themselves short?

Playing at home is really an ace up the sleeve England will definitely take advantage of. The tournament will be hosted by 11 different cities, and with that one Rugby World Cup won back in 2003, with the fans’ support, miracles can happen. In the RWC history, England made the Finals 3 out of 7 times.

Analysing previous strategies and technical moves of each team helps, but tough and intense training is what makes the difference every 4 years. The next Rugby World Cup will be held for the first time in Asia, Japan 2019, but till then we have a lot to talk about this fall.
