Sports bras are an essential piece of kit for women – particularly in rugby with and the high impact nature of the sport.
MAAREE was set up by Mari Thomas-Welland, a sports bra engineer at Loughborough University in 2018. She was frustrated by the issues she faced personally and the lack of progress with the ‘bigger’ sportswear brands she worked with. She developed a bra with a unique Overband technology which stops upward movement.
They work with more than 20 rugby players who will be appearing at the RWC across England, Wales, Scotland, Italy and USA and have a partnership with Sale Sharks and have previously worked with WRU.
Speaking about the sport Mari said,
“rugby as a sport is really challenging for bras as the body shapes and sizes are so different, along with body ratios so fittings are even more important. As it’s a high impact sport, the chest takes a lot of that so it is really important from that perspective too.
