ARDS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB SCORES WITH LOAN

Ards Rugby Football Club (RFC) has received a significant loan from The Ulster Community Investment Trust (UCIT) which will support their redevelopment plans.

UCIT provides affordable loans to community and social enterprise businesses throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. As a registered charity, all profits generated by UCIT are retained and recycled for the benefit of its clients.

Ards RFC boasts a strong playing membership of 120 senior members plus 30 youth members and 120 ‘mini’ members further supported by 100 non-playing members. The Club has extensive playing facilities at their 13.5 acre site on the edge of Newtownards which include four full size pitches, clubhouse and changing rooms.

President, Neil Workman said: “Our only sources of income are through player subscriptions, fundraising and money from the bar. We received a recommendation from the Ulster branch of the IRFU that UCIT might be able to assist our future plans. They have been incredibly supportive of the Club and recognise the impact it has on the local community.

“The loan we received will help us to refinance the Club. In the next couple of years we are aiming to redevelop the club grounds, incorporating a new clubhouse facility, a 4G pitch and enhanced car parking and infrastructure.”

Harry McDaid, chief executive, UCIT, said: “The Club has a proud history and a strong membership. It also has a vibrant youth section with many children in the area getting involved in rugby from a very young age. In common with the development of the game, it also fields a Ladies team so it caters for a wide range of sporting and social needs. UCIT is proud to be able to support an organisation which has such a positive social impact on its community and we wish the Club every success for next season.”

Since its foundation, UCIT has committed in excess of £50 million to over 300 charities, community organisations and social enterprises. Those interested in finding out more can visit www.ucitltd.com.
