Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 19th November 2022.

On Tuesday 15th November Strabane Academy defeated Craigavon Senior High School by 22-15 in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
As well as the re-arranged Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Group Stage Section E game, featuring Grosvenor Grammar School and Omagh Academy, a number of Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Round 1 games took place on Wednesday 16th November.
In the Grosvenor Grammar School game, it was the Omagh Academy team that came away with a hard-earned, but ultimately well-deserved, 26-12 victory.
The Grosvenor Grammar School team scored two tries through their impressive No8, Charles Campbell with Ross Millar adding one conversion.
The Omagh Academy team scored four tries through Sam Beattie, Harvey King, Joshua Robinson and Connor Huey. Andrew Johnston was successful with three conversions.
The foundations for the success of the Omagh Academy team, in the course of this game, were laid by the performances of players such as Isaac Rainey, Jamie Mitchell, Conrad Hale and Joshua Keys.
Following the completion of the first two rounds of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Group Stage games the current standings of the group compositions are as listed below.

In the first round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup two of the games were played on Wednesday 16th.
Royal School, Dungannon played Foyle and Londonderry College and won the close encounter by 20-17.
Friends’ School, Lisburn played Dromore High School and recorded a well-deserved 36-7 victory.
On the same afternoon, at 1stxv level, Methodist College, Belfast hosted Clongowes Wood College, from Clane in Co Kildare.
At the end of an exciting game it was the Clongowes Wood College team that returned home with a 21-16 victory under their belts.
The Methodist College points came through two unconverted tries from Jamie Thompson and two penalty goals from Ben McFarlane.
The Clongowes Wood College team scored three tries through Ross Adams, Tom Murtagh and Matthew Roche Nagle. Tom Murtagh capped a fine personal performance with three successful conversions.
Rainey Endowed School played Ballymena Academy in a game the Ballymena Academy team won by 31-12.
The Rainey Endowed School team points came through tries from Billy Allen and Jayden Shiels with James Cappell adding the extras to one of the tries.
The Ballymena Academy team scored five tries in the course of the game. Callum Mustoe, Tom McMaster, James McIlroy, Marshall Robinson and Sean McKay scored the tries with Sean adding also three successful conversions.
On Thursday 17th November Banbridge Academy hosted Belfast High School in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup.
The Banbridge Academy team won the game by 26-21.
On the same afternoon Ballyclare Secondary School played Portadown College in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
The Ballyclare Secondary School team won the game by 22-10.
On Friday 18th November one 1stxv friendly game was played when Regent House School played Down High School at Uprichard Park, home of Bangor Rugby Football Club.
This close encounter was sitting at 17-17 going into the final play of the game when a converted Down High School try secured a 24-17 victory for the Downpatrick team.
Ben McCreedy scored twice for the Regent House School team with Jude McKenna running in for a third try. Zach Campbell was successful with one of his conversion kicks.
Matthew Foster, Ryan Connolly and Rhodri Phillips tries, along with one Rhodri Phillips conversion, for Down High School, saw the scoreboard reading 17-17 going into the final play of the game.
Both teams would have settled for this score had the final whistle blown. However, there was still enough time on the clock for Ross McKee to spot a gap in the Regent House defence and blast over the whitewash to touch down for a try. Rhodri Phillips added the extras to secure the 24-17 victory for the delighted Down High School team.
Both teams, and their coaches, would like to thank Bangor RFC for the use of their excellent facilities and hosting the game.
On Saturday 19th November Omagh Academy played Limavady Grammar School in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup at the Campsie Playing Fields. The Omagh Academy team won the game by 26-17.
In the 1st Round of the of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Bangor Academy played Carrickfergus Grammar School.
The Bangor Academy team continued their recent run of good form with a 27-12 win.
Once this result was known, the draw for the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield took place. The draw was made by Ruth Ravey, Vice Principal, Dromore High School.

On Saturday 19th November nine Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 1stxv friendly games took place.
Ballyclare High School played Bangor Grammar School and recorded an impressive 33-5 victory.
The Ballyclare High School team scored five tries through Ewan Jones, Austin Martin, Isaac Shiels, Tom McAllister and Jacob Scarlett. Joel Flynn was successful with four of his conversion kicks.
The Bangor Grammar School points came through an unconverted try from Jack DeLargy
Belfast High School hosted Royal School, Armagh in a game which saw the Royal School, Armagh team emerge as comprehensive winners.
For the Belfast High School team, players such as Aaron Mitchell, Daniel Bennett, Adam Bennett, Joey Ashby and Robbie McMinn all impressed with their performances.
For the Royal School, Armagh team, players such as Finn Fenhert, Josh Watterson, Archie Johnston, Thomas Dougan, Kai Sterritt and Benjamin Murphy all impressed with their performances.
Belfast Royal Academy played Dalriada School and scored seven tries in the course of their 43-0 victory.
Henry George scored two tries with Matthew McLaughlin, Josh McLaughlin, Josh Manson, Matthew McQuiston and Frank Davis each touching down for one try apiece.
Ryan O’Hara was successful with three conversions with Josh <McKee adding a fourth.
Coleraine Grammar School played Methodist College, Belfast in a game that saw the Methodist College, Belfast team record a 19-7 victory.
The Coleraine Grammar School points came in the second half of the game when Joel Madden crashed over the Methody line for a try. Jordan McAuley was successful with his conversion kick.
The Methodist College team had built up a 12-0 lead by the break through two tries from Jamie Thompson and Oliver Neill, one of which was converted by Ben McFarlane.
A second half try from Ryan Kidd, converted by Ben McFarlane, secured the 19-7 victory for the Methodist College, Belfast team.
Dromore High School played Royal School, Dungannon at the Barban Hill venue and won the closely contested game by 24-19.
The Dromore High School team had built up a 17-7 lead by the interval. One try from Alex Ferreira, and a brace from Keevan Cochrane, along with one conversion from Josh Quiqley, accounted for the points in the first half for the Dromore High School team.
The Royal School, Dungannon team scored a first half try through Alfie Lewis which was converted by Jacob Clarke.
The Royal School, Dungannon team scored twelve second half points through tries from Jacob Clarke and Cameron Cummings with Jacob adding another conversion.
However, a penalty try for Dromore High School proved to be the essential difference between the teams and one which secured the 24-19 victory for the Dromore High School team.
Friends’ School, Lisburn played Banbridge Academy in a game which saw the Banbridge Academy team emerge as 10-0 winners.
Despite good performances from Friends’ School players such as Samuel Dillon, Joel Collins and Alexander McKinley, they could find no way through a resolute Banbridge Academy defence.
Second half unconverted tries from Ryan Little, who put in a “Man of the Match” performance, and Calum Hanna, who took advantage of good work from Tom King and Luke Charman, secured the 10-0 victory for the Banbridge Academy team.
Grosvenor Grammar School hosted Larne Grammar School in a game the Larne Grammar School team won by 10-0.
Ethan Anderson scored the Larne Grammar School try with Ethan Duncan adding the conversion as well one successful penalty.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Campbell College, Belfast in an exciting encounter at Osborne Park.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team won the game by 19-7. They scored three tries through Alex Place, James Clarke and Jacob Boyd. Josh Eagleson added the extras to two of the tries.
The Campbell College, Belfast team scored one try through Joseph Jeffrey which was converted by Matthew Rea.
Sullivan Upper School travelled to Dublin with a number of regular players missing to play Terenure College in a mid-afternoon kick off game.
The Terenure College team maintained their recent run of good form with a comprehensive victory..
