My aim is both to help people keep fit and active so that they can continue to enjoy life to the full for as long as possible, and also to guide people towards a more healthy lifestyle so that we can ward off disease and live independantly for as long as they can.

Perhaps your job is so demanding that you find little time to include exercise and healthy eating into your busy life or maybe family commitments take over and you find little time for yourself.

The important thing to remember is that your health is paramount and it is vital that you make time, even just half an hour, for yourself each day.

Walking is a gentle low impact, which is a great way to kick-start a healthier lifestyle. It can be done anywhere, at any time, and it’s safe, simple and cheap, so you can start today and there are many health benefits too.

Brisk walking can, Lower your LDL cholesterol (the “bad” one), Raise your HDL cholesterol (the “good” one)
Lower your blood pressure, Reduce your risk of, or manage type 2 diabetes, Manage your weight.
Improve your mood,Keep you strong and fit, Reduce the risk of heart attack by the same amount as a more vigorous exercise, such as jogging.

If you aren’t used to being active, start slowly. And if you’re worried about your joints or any existing health condition, talk to your GP first.
Using a pedometer, find out how many steps you take in a normal day. As soon as you feel comfortable, increase your steps, little by little, to 10,000 a day.

Always warm up first to prevent cramps – you only need to walk at a steady pace for five minutes when you set out – and drink water before, during and after walking.
