In a highly entertaining game, the home side came through to win by 34-22, having withstood a spirited comeback by the Carlisle visitors.

In the well-worm phrase, this was definitely a game of two halves. Having applied most of the early pressure, Bangor were soon in front by 3 tries with 1 conversion.

A charge down by Carlisle was followed up in the ensuing foot race bringing the visitors a score, somewhat against the run of play. However, within minutes of the restart, Bangor replied with another good effort to bring the half time score to 22-5.

Bangor looked in charge, and the feeling was that they would rack up a large score in the second half. The half time team talk must have given the Carlisle players a boost, as they started with more vigour and kept play mostly within the Bangor half.

Slowly but surely, they made the pressure count and the scores started to come. With only about 10 minutes of the game remaining, the scores were level at 22-22, and once more it was anybody’s game.

Bangor rallied and produced some strong running against a tiring Carlisle defence, eventually adding 2 further tries to seal the victory by 34-22.

Even for the neutral spectator, this was a great display of junior rugby, with much promise in store when the players become eligible for their respective senior sides.
