Ophir RFC Hosted their Annual 7-a-side Youth Tournament on Friday the 20th August from 6.30pm – 9pm.

The evening was brilliant with good light and the standard of the rugby was excellent!

Malone, Carrick, Larne, Ballyclare, Instonians, Ophir, Ballymena and Randalstown competed in two sections.

The high standard of rugby bodes well for the future of all the Ulster clubs who competed.

Semi-finals – Ballyclare v Instonians and Larne v Randalstown.

Instonians won their semi-finals and played Randalstown in the final.

It is testament to the youth system now in place at Instonians and the work of their coaching team that these young men played with such skill and enthusiasm convincingly winning each of their games including the final.

Marcus Hart was rightly awarded the player of the tournament and we look forward to seeing alot more rugby from him.

A big congratulations must go to all the teams and coaches and supporters who made the youth night a great success and thanks from intouch for great rugby, we look forward to covering lots more at Ophir and at the clubs involved in the Ophir 7’s.

Randalstown were excellent on the night as were Larne and Ballyclare, although some very close games preceded the eventual semi-final play-offs.

With tries in abundance the crowd were delighted by all the rugby and a big congratulations must go to Ophir RFC for hosting this excellent tournament
