Carrick ladies travelled to Lakeside to take on Ballyshannon ladies in a top of the table tie which could be vital in deciding the ladies division 3 league winners.
The visitors kicked off the first half, which after a brief period of play, was conducted in the Ballyshannon half. The strong Ballyshannon pack kept Carrick to a nil-nil scoreline until out half Arlene Devine kicked a penalty to take the score to 0-3.
Carrick made several attempts on the line, but were unable to score despite having four tries held up on the line. Forward Sabrina Higgins went over the line twice in quick succession, however was held up by a strong Ballyshannon defensive line. Flanker Robyn Kelly and out half Arlene Devine also pushed through the defensive line, but were also held up. The half time whistle blew at 0-3 to Carrick.
The second half kicked off with Ballyshannon making an attack on the Carrick line, however Carrick responded with a counter attack and found themselves back deep in the Ballyshannon half. Prop Lydine Wilson pushed the ball over the line for a potential fifth try, but was again upheld by the Ballyshannon defence. A kick from the home full back took the ball back into the Carrick side but was retrieved and passed to Arlene Devine who also pushed over the line but the try was ruled as upheld.
Carrick ladies have now played all their league matches and have suffered only 1 defeat this season and are now in a strong position to feature in the league play-off for promotion to their previous division 2. Their position now rests with the results of matches between Letterkenny, Ballyshannon and Ards.
