This photo shows how the layers of ink are applied to make the screenprint LOVE – as ever, the yellow goes down first, then a colour which in this case is red and finally the black, or key (as in cmyk) to pull it all together. The trick is to put the first two layers down in such a way that the black can do so without showing any cracks. Sometimes there are slight mis-registrations with hand-pulled screenprints but many view them as a characteristic charm of the medium.

The letters are all taken from comics in the 1950s and 1960s. The shadows are so adorable!

All Comic Art Screenprints screenprints are made by the producer John Patrick Reynolds in his studio in west London.
They are printed on mould-made cotton paper, which is milled in Somerset.

These screenprints are available in 26x19cms and are £40 unframed and £70 framed.

This is John in the print studio. You can see a screenprinting table in the foreground, a light box on the left and drying racks behind. John is holding one of the tools of the trade: a large squeegee, used for transferring ink from the screen to the print.
