Dunngannon entertained Newry to a highly contested match match with many high and low points. Newry recieved and gave a strong start putting pressure on the Dunngannon forwards but this was quickly turned over and Dunngannon got strong runners behind the ball and with a strong rucking force, got over the line for the first score of the game. Newry had a quick team talk and got ready to run out strong. Newry applied the pressure for long and sustained periods of time and made ground from the lineout work of Aaron Laverty time and time again. Off the back of a lineout a maul was formed and Newry’s Joe Rice busted through tackles to make it over the line. Newry were on a high and continued high pressure for the duration of the half. Dunngannon had their own high points with a break from a forward running the length of the pitch only for Newry’s Daniel Kehoe makeing a fantastic tackle out of nowhere and turning it over for the end of the half. A truely try saving tackle which would prove to be very important later on in the match. After the half Newry’s Rory McParland and Trent Tucker ran in more scores to make the score 15-7. Nearing the end of the game a Dunngannon back made a run past the wing of a tiring Newry backline to make the score 15-12. It wasn’t until late Newry got a penalty and through the boot of McParland, Newry ended the match 18-12. Too close for comfort at times, but a good performance none the less.
