{"id":79824,"date":"2015-01-14T19:26:31","date_gmt":"2015-01-14T19:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=79824"},"modified":"2015-01-14T19:26:31","modified_gmt":"2015-01-14T19:26:31","slug":"ex-referee-alain-rolland-fears-technology-gone-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/ex-referee-alain-rolland-fears-technology-gone-far\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-referee Alain Rolland fears technology has gone too far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By John Kelly<br \/>\nFormer international referee Alain Rolland feels technology in rugby has gone too far.<\/p>\n<p>Rolland, who refereed the 2007 World Cup final and infamously sent off Wales\u2019 Sam Warburton in the semi-final against France four years later, is in favour of a challenge system that will be trialled in South Africa\u2019s Varsity Cup this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about finding the happy medium,\u201d Rolland said of the debate over technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some instance the technology has gone too far because now in some games you\u2019re finding a lot of pressure from the captains all the time to go and check stuff. And you say, \u2018No, we\u2019re quite happy with what we did.\u2019 It\u2019s giving players a licence to say to referees more often than not, \u2018Can you check this or that?\u2019 and that\u2019s not what it\u2019s there for.
