{"id":74326,"date":"2014-10-13T21:18:41","date_gmt":"2014-10-13T20:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=74326"},"modified":"2014-10-13T22:08:42","modified_gmt":"2014-10-13T21:08:42","slug":"images-released-randalstown-rfc-v-bhsfp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/images-released-randalstown-rfc-v-bhsfp\/","title":{"rendered":"Images &#038; Reports Released Randalstown RFC v BHSFP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CLICK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=oa.10152764236149183&amp;type=1\">HERE<\/a> for the shots<\/p>\n<p><strong>Randalstown 2<sup>nd<\/sup> XV 20\u00a0 Carrickfergus 3<sup>rd<\/sup> XV\u00a0 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Randalstown 2nds maintained their 100% record this season, with five wins out of five, on this occasion going up against Carrick 3s in a tight encounter at Neillsbrook on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>This leaves \u2018Town sitting four points clear at the top of Junior 4 although their nearest rivals have a game in hand at present.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Town\u2019s organisation made a vital difference in this match and they got off to a great start bossing their experienced opponents and taking only 6 minutes to open the scoring.\u00a0 Matty Turner, alert as ever, took a quick penalty and ran into the heart of the defence.\u00a0 The recycled ball was whipped out the back line to Paul Laverty and Matthew Mawhinney who set Andy White away and the young full back galloped over for a score.<\/p>\n<p>Randalstown continued to press and on 20 minutes after being held out a number of times, Laverty, at full stretch, went\u00a0 over in the corner\u00a0 for a deserved score.<\/p>\n<p>As the game continued however the home side, \u00a0despite the lion\u2019s share of possession, \u00a0didn\u2019t put points on the board with the result that in the closing ten minutes of the half Carrick were able to edge their way back into the game.\u00a0 Some slack tackling let the visitors break through from just inside the \u2018Town half for an unconverted try.\u00a0 They added to this on the stroke of half time after a series of errors from the home side when they landed a penalty to narrow the gap to 10-8.<\/p>\n<p>There was stalemate for the first 20 minutes of the second half as neither team achieved any level of domination.\u00a0 Gradually though \u2018Town pulled it back and Murray converted a penalty after they had put together some good phases of play.\u00a0\u00a0 They upped the pace again and turned the screw in the loose, and in the scrums.\u00a0 When Simon Adams got the ball on Carrick\u2019s 22 there didn\u2019t appear to be much danger for the visitors but the prop showed a great turn of pace to burst through and sprint over for a try in the corner.\u00a0 Murray slotted over the difficult conversion.<\/p>\n<p>Ill discipline from \u2018Town allowed Carrick to get a foothold in the remaining minutes and they were rewarded with a late converted try.<\/p>\n<p>Randalstown hung on for a well deserved win against this Carrick side who defeated them home and away last season.\u00a0 Again it was a great all round team performance from the seconds with the front row putting in a mighty effort.\u00a0 Laverty and Turner were impressive in the back line but 2<sup>nd<\/sup> row Scott Goodrich got the nod as the pick of a fine bunch this weekend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BHSFP 2<sup>nd<\/sup> XV\u00a0 51\u00a0\u00a0 Randalstown \u00a03<sup>rd<\/sup> XV 14<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This game was played in ideal conditions\u00a0 at the Greenisland\u00a0 venue, unfortunately \u00a0Randalstown 3rds preparation suffered a few hiccups and the team that took to the pitch showed many changes from the original selection.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these drawbacks the first half was an evenly contested affair as the\u00a0 Randalstown \u00a0side scored two converted tries through Kelly and Donnelly ,with Service slotting over both conversions.<\/p>\n<p>The greater experience and seniority showed as \u00a0the home side started to take their chances and at half-time the score was 24-14 to BHSFP.<\/p>\n<p>With Randalstown\u2019s \u00a0lack of fitness and some poor tackling beginning to tell a tale, High School took control and ran in a number of tries.<\/p>\n<p>The Randalstown 3XV \u00a0have been unfortunate in the last few weeks to come across sides who should be playing at a level above Minor rugby.\u00a0 \u00a0Next week \u00a0will give Aaron Murray\u2019s side a chance to line out against local rivals Antrim RFC in a game which should be much more evenly contested.<\/p>\n<p>A large crowd is expected to give the side their support at the game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CLICK HERE for the shots Randalstown 2nd XV 20\u00a0 Carrickfergus 3rd XV\u00a0 13.
