Christmas is after all about giving to others. As the 1st of December rings the start of Christmas it also rings the end of Movember. There is no spelling mistake Mo-vember. Movember is named so due to the fact that during the month men who take part groom their “Mo” or moustache. The rules are simple, you must start the month clean shaven and have a photo to prove such and then the rest is up to you! There is a couple of reminders as well, the Mo can’t join, that’s a goate, nor can it link to sideburns, that’s a beard. Their aspiration was to bring the Moustache back into fashion ( or at least try to) and do something for men’s heath. After the initial year the founders were inspired by the work that had been done for breast cancer and decided to focus on raising awareness and money for Prostate cancer. Continuing this on an annual basis Movmber has caught the imagination of many guys and has spread not just across Australia but also globally. Men taking part are classed as ‘Mo Bros’ while women supporting their ‘Mo Bros’ or even sporting fake Mo’s are called ‘Mo Sistas’. Since it’s beginnings in 2003 there has been more than 627,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. In 2009 there was over 1 million donors globally raising over £26 million pounds for the global beneficiary partners. The money raised is directed towards innovative education, support, research and awareness initiatives.
Armagh Rugby club
All of Armagh Rugby Club website messages were dated Movember instead of November and we found a link on the site to two people who had got into the Movember spirit in a big way and Armagh where supporting them, Phil Turbitt and Paul McCord

This cause and sense of humour approach has clearly resonated well with rugby players over the world. Now a common feature adorning many of the Australian players during the Autumn test series it has also spread to other international teams including Ireland. Many might have noticed during the game or the National Anthems that a few of our rugby stars, including Ulster’s own Andrew Trimble, were sporting Mo’s. This fun way of raising awareness of such a worthwhile cause has also popped up in a few local clubs including Ards and Ballyclare to name but a few.

Some CIYMS Participants

Click here for lots of Movember Pictures from Grosvenor Rugby Club or click on the picture – CLICK HERE –
There are some hilarious pictures in this Grosvenor compilation of pictures, just click on the pictures or the link to see them. Once such team is the “Iranian Horsemen”. This tema consisting of a number of rugby players current and retired as well as a few friends took the bull by the horns as far as Northern Ireland was concerned. “we decided to form a team at a very late stage, maybe a day or 2 before we had to start” said senior member Jack Ferguson. “ We still managed to organise a Mo party for last night to display our month’s efforts. Taphouse helped us host the event which seen lots of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas come down for some fun. We also named our Mr. Movember and Miss Movember with a presentation of sashes to each of the winners. Everyone had a great night but next year we have much bigger plans. We’re going to start organising early and make next Movember the Movember to remember!”. It should be noted that this local team raised over ££3,750 which placed them in the top 150 fundraisers nationally.
So spare a thought for the guys who grew their Mo’s and not only endured the itchiness and the funny looks, but now December has come, clean shaven and cold upper lips!

If we missed your club, just send us an email to info@intouchrugby.com and we’d be delighted to feature your efforts.
Well done to everyone, this is just a small number of the gents who participated.

HOLYWOOD MOVEMBER

It’s the 1st of December and most of us are thinking about our Christmas trees and buying gifts for the upcoming holidays.
