{"id":72594,"date":"2014-09-09T10:33:26","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T09:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=72594"},"modified":"2014-09-09T10:33:26","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T09:33:26","slug":"ireland-girls-sevens-squad-underage-european-championships-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/ireland-girls-sevens-squad-underage-european-championships-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland Girls&#8217; Sevens Squad for Underage European Championships Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ireland Girls&#8217; Sevens Squad for Underage European Championships Announced <\/p>\n<p>Squad includes Ballina sisters Mairead and Kayleigh Hopkins<\/p>\n<p>The Irish Rugby Football Union today announce the Girls&#8217; Sevens squad to take part in the FIRA underage European Championships in Sweden from 12th \u2013 15th September.<\/p>\n<p>The 12 strong squad includes seven girls from the Irish U18s team which were Bowl winners in the recent UK School Games in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>The addition of Erin Caughey and Mairead Hopkins, who participated in the 2013 UK school games, along with three new members, Kayleigh Hopkins (Mairead&#8217;s older sister), Kathryn Dane and Fiona Tuite complete the squad.<\/p>\n<p>The team is coached by Stan McDowell and captained by Jayne Pennefather.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the team, Stan McDowell, said &#8220;We were delighted with the squad&#8217;s approach and work-ethic at the recent UK School Games and pleased to welcome back two members from last year&#8217;s squad and three new girls as we look to the European Championships in Sweden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The experience the girls gain in these international tournaments is vital for their long-term development and for the continued development of the women&#8217;s game, so we are determined to use these opportunities to continue the learning of this young squad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>IRELAND GIRLS&#8217; U20 SEVENS (FIRA Underage European Championships Sweden):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chloe Blackmore (Carrick on Suir\/Munster)<br \/>\nErin Caughey (Malone\/Ulster)<br \/>\nMeabh Donohoe (Tullow \/Leinster)<br \/>\nStacey Flood (Railway Union \/Leinster)<br \/>\nKathryn Dane (Enniskillen\/Ulster)<br \/>\nJessica Hunt (Wicklow\/Leinster)<br \/>\nShannen Lane (Cavan\/Ulster)<br \/>\nMairead Hopkins (Ballina\/Connacht)<br \/>\nMeabh O&#8217;Brien (Naas\/Leinster)<br \/>\nKayleigh Hopkins (Ballina\/Connacht)<br \/>\nJayne Pennefather (Carrigaline \/Munster)<br \/>\nFiona Tuite (Railway Union\/Leinster) <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ireland Girls&#8217; Sevens Squad for Underage European Championships Announced Squad includes Ballina sisters Mairead and Kayleigh Hopkins The Irish Rugby Football Union today announce the Girls&#8217; Sevens squad to take part in the FIRA underage European Championships in Sweden from 12th \u2013 15th September.
