{"id":69197,"date":"2014-06-17T18:35:42","date_gmt":"2014-06-17T17:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=69197"},"modified":"2014-06-18T12:39:56","modified_gmt":"2014-06-18T11:39:56","slug":"former-brain-injury-rugby-star-completes-bath-half-marathon-raises-10500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/former-brain-injury-rugby-star-completes-bath-half-marathon-raises-10500\/","title":{"rendered":"Former brain injury rugby star completes Bath Half Marathon and raises \u00a310,500"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Former brain injury sports stars complete Bath Half Marathon and raise over \u00a310,500<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>11th June 2014, Bath<\/strong>: Two sports stars who suffered traumatic brain injuries took part in this year\u2019s Bath Half Marathon to raise money for Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in Bristol, the facility that helped rehabilitate them.<\/p>\n<p>Former professional rugby player, Lee Audis, and gold European event rider medalist, Polly Williamson, ran the \u2018Bath Half\u2019 along with five of the therapists that treated them over the last year. Despite the unpleasant weather and tough, physical conditions, Lee finished the race in 4 hours 14 minutes and Polly completed it in 3 hours and 54 minutes \u2013 a huge achievement for both of them.<\/p>\n<p>The pair collectively raised over \u00a310,500.\u00a0 Their donation, together with money donated from other sources, will now enable the Centre to purchase an electric standing\/walking hoist and treadmill (the LiteGait\u00ae).\u00a0 The LiteGait\u00ae simultaneously controls weight bearing, posture and balance over a treadmill or over ground and will allow Frenchay\u2019s therapy team to get patient\u2019s standing and walking at an earlier point in their rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Alison Woods, Centre Manager at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, said: \u201cPolly and Lee\u2019s participation in the Bath Half Marathon is a tremendous achievement and testament to the hard work and determination that they showed during their rehabilitation.
