Picture this: recently unemployed, apartment flooding to the point of evacuation, and the cherry on top? Running smack right into Mr. Stick-Up-His-You-Know-What, Calvin Rhodes, My brother’s uptight, pompous college best friend.<\/p>\n

I was more than happy to keep my distance from him, but when a week-long, all-expenses-paid trip to Algarve, Portugal, was offered to me, I was in no position to say no. The only catch? I\u2019d have to pretend to be Calvin\u2019s girlfriend and attend a wedding with him. Surely tolerating Calvin for a week is doable\u2026 right?<\/p>\n

After being blind-sided by my ex when she pulled the plug on our relationship, I was in deep denial, and with a mutual friend’s wedding that we were both part of coming up, I\u2019m desperate for a date to help me save face.<\/p>\n

Enter Nikita Da Silva – my buddy\u2019s younger sister who can only be described as chaos personified and the thorn in my side since day one.<\/p>\n

The suggestion for Nikita to be my fake girlfriend was laughable, but since I was running out of time and options, this seemed like the best one. She could be the buffer I needed to shield myself from the emotional clutches of my ex.
