{"id":68556,"date":"2014-05-29T22:27:10","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T21:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=68556"},"modified":"2014-05-29T22:27:10","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T21:27:10","slug":"grimes-mckee-co-host-cai-memorial-dinner-tickets-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/grimes-mckee-co-host-cai-memorial-dinner-tickets-released\/","title":{"rendered":"GRIMES &#038; McKEE TO CO-HOST CAI MEMORIAL DINNER AS TICKETS ARE RELEASED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GRIMES &#038; McKEE TO CO-HOST CAI MEMORIAL DINNER AS TICKETS ARE RELEASED<\/p>\n<p>Ireland\u2019s leading comedy duo, Grimes and McKee, will co-host the Oliver Turkington Memorial Dinner at Coleraine Academical Institution<br \/>\nthis autumn, it has been announced.<\/p>\n<p>The charity event is being organised to mark 25 years since \u201cInst\u201d became the Irish first school to play rugby in Japan, and to celebrate<br \/>\nthe life of Oliver Turkington, a much-loved member of the squad, who sadly died in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>British and Irish Lions legend Willie John McBride will be principal speaker at the gathering which will take place on Saturday 13<br \/>\nSeptember, with tickets priced at \u00a345.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds will be divided equally between Cancer Research UK and rugby development at CAI.  The dress code is \u201clounge suit, top button open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alan McKee, an Old Boy of the school who played in the 1988 Schools\u2019 Cup Final, said he and comedy partner Conor Grimes were delighted to<br \/>\nbe involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRunning out at Ravenhill on St Patrick\u2019s Day to represent my school was one of the proudest moments of my life,\u201d said Alan, who played at<br \/>\ntight-head prop in the showpiece of Ulster schools\u2019 rugby 26 years<br \/>\nago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was therefore honoured to be asked to play a part in this veryspecial event and had no hesitation in saying yes.  Conor wasn\u2019t<br \/>\nallowed to have an opinion but, if he had one, he would have said yes too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral members of the Japan tour squad were team mates of mine in 1988 and it will be terrific to see them again.  I know that a number<br \/>\nof others from my year will also be making the effort to come along to support two great causes and remember Oliver, who will forever be held<br \/>\nin very high regard by all who knew him.  I can guarantee a night to remember for everyone, including Conor if he doesn\u2019t get lost on the<br \/>\nway. Sadly, he\u2019s not from Coleraine but secretly wishes he was. Probably.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barry White, who is organising the event  in partnership with current CAI 1st XV Head Coach and fellow Japan tour team mate Richard Beggs,<br \/>\nsaid he was thrilled that Grimes and McKee had answered the call to arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI well remember Alan regularly trampling over me in training matches as the 1988 team marched their way to the Schools\u2019 Cup Final,\u201d said<br \/>\nBarry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my form of revenge by inviting him to make a mouth of himself in front of many of his closest friends and family members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlongside the Hughes Insurance TV adverts which I know have led to countless tea-time choking incidents across the Province, Alan and<br \/>\nConor are probably best known for their hugely successful play \u2018The History of the Troubles&#8230;Accordin&#8217; to my Da.\u2019 Alan kindly invited me<br \/>\nto watch a performance in London some years ago and it only cost me the price of a pint afterwards.
