{"id":68018,"date":"2014-05-15T13:29:19","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T12:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=68018"},"modified":"2020-11-09T13:46:34","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T13:46:34","slug":"new-zealand-retain-irb-womens-sevens-world-series-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/new-zealand-retain-irb-womens-sevens-world-series-crown\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand Retain IRB Women&#8217;s Sevens World Series Crown"},"content":{"rendered":"<table width=\"581\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"5\" width=\"581\">\n<table width=\"581\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"5\" width=\"581\">New Zealand Retain IRB Women&#8217;s Sevens World Series Crown<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>New Zealand have been crowned the IRB Women&#8217;s Sevens World Series 2013\/14 champions on the final day of the season in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>For the second year in a row, New Zealand won both the tournament and the overall Series titles, this time by beating Australia 29-12 in the final played in front of a packed house at the National Rugby Centre in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>In glorious sunshine on Friday and Saturday, the two sides served up yet another classic final to match the encounters that took place in Dubai, Sao Paulo and Guangzhou.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on day two, Australia beat Brazil and Canada on route to the final, while New Zealand overcame Russia before being tested by England in the semi-final, making certain of the victory in the final minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsletter.irb.com:81\/CT00280003MTI4Nzg=.HTML?D=2014-05-17\">CLICK HERE TO READ A REPORT FROM DAY TWO IN AMSTERDAM &gt;&gt;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the final, New Zealand coach Sean Horan said: &#8220;I think it\u2019s very important for where we\u2019re going, I\u2019m very excited and I\u2019m very proud of the girls.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a unique culture and I think we\u2019re playing the brand of Rugby we want to play. We&#8217;ve learned a lot in this Series and we\u2019re excited about next season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsletter.irb.com:81\/CT00280004MTI4Nzg=.HTML?D=2014-05-17\">CLICK HERE TO WATCH HIGHLIGHTS FROM DAY TWO IN AMSTERDAM &gt;&gt; <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Bowl final was won by hosts the Netherlands after they overcame South Africa, while USA beat Russia to win the Plate.<\/p>\n<p>The final day of the IRB Women&#8217;s Sevens World Series 2013\/14 also saw Australia&#8217;s Emilee Cherry named the IRB Women&#8217;s Sevens Player of the Year as well as the season&#8217;s top try scorer.
