A Uruguayan Air Force plane, commissioned for a civilian flight, crashes in the Andes. Among the forty passengers are a first-division rugby team, accompanied by family and friends. Hindered by treacherous conditions, the search and rescue efforts cannot locate the wreckage, and are abandoned after eight days.

Ten weeks later, two unkempt boys are spotted by a muleteer high in the Chilean foothills. One throws a note to him, across a mountain torrent: I come from a plane that fell in the mountains… In the plane there are still fourteen injured people…

Drawing on extensive original research, the author sheds new light on this extraordinary story from a perspective of fifty years, expanding on events before, during, and after the ordeal. His retelling is enriched by the accounts of those who didn’t return from the mountain, related through the eyes of their families, bringing much-needed balance to a story which has largely focused on the survivors.

John Guiver’s comprehensive account, which includes an in-depth look at the world from which the passengers came and an analysis of the possible causes of the accident, is a fundamental contribution to the history of this famous event.

TOMY toys have created a Christmas gift guide for parents who want to save money and invest in long-lasting toys for their children, friends and family.

https://uk.tomy.com/

Timeless Toys for Christmas

With Christmas on the way and families becoming ever-more conscious of waste creation and product longevity, buying engaging toys for kids
can be challenging. She is a figurative artist who concentrates on every line and crease and blemish and displays an empathy with her subject.”

And Natalia Juruk Deputy Editor of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine says: “Her ability to capture the human form in sublime and unconventional ways is heightened further with her characters living just outside the mainstream world, creating a spectacle of dancers, tattoos and other forms”.

From the artist herself

“Art provides an environment to explore all things taboo. It will show its customers and the tech world the ever-changing art-forms a shoe takes to transform into reality.

CAMPAIGN POWERED BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

“The idea of implementing digital art in the shoe campaign almost had fallen into our hands. At that time, there was a buzz in the global network about releasing various models of latent diffusion, a type of deep generative neural network for converting text into images” comments Vitaly Yermak, the campaign Art Designer

““We Speak Shoes” AI Campaign Stills from the videos – Courtesy Kiko Gaspar Communications

The brand tested all the most popular types and their resources to adjust the algorithm for working in the videos. They had to go through the whole process forward and backward simultaneously. For each pair of shoes, was created a mood board and visual matching its fashion style and then used AI to interpret it into the text towards understanding the clues augmentation, allowing to go back and precisely generate the needed image style This process was repeated as many times as needed until the basis was no longer a mood board but an interpretation itself in the form of fractal reimagining.

“During this period, while the campaign was worked on the videos with the help of a neural network, has been created about 290186 unique variations of the “KACHOROVSKA” shoe styles. The AI did what would have taken a person forever in 3210784 seconds. I believe we are witnessing the birth of a new era in culture. I call it a neo-renaissance, where there is absolute neo/innovative creativity that creates pure beauty in its highest essence” states Alina Kachorovska.

Alina Kachorovska – Courtesy Kiko Gaspar Communications

Last few decades, there has been an extensive growth of artificial social superstructures. As a result, creativity collided with dependence on marketing, commerce, taste unification, and all those globalization processes. It became overpowering. The interpretations were winning over newness, and creative bravery was giving into the audience’s “tastes and demands.”

As a visionary, Alina Kachorovska always been on the lookout for the next big thing in everything. So, the need for change had been broiling in the mind of the brands creative designer for more than a year. Alina realized that AI and its capacity for infinite variations is the engine of transformations and the vessel to transition to neo-renaissance, something new, something great. Alina believes we can all breakthrough our imaginary comfort zone and see much more. Such an exciting and phenomenal journey is unfolding before humans — millions of new designs and experiences through the opened portal of endless and absolute creativity — as described in timeless “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” one of Alina’s favorite science fictions.

And has humans, the head of KACHOROVSKA trusts we don’t have to be afraid of competition with digital complexity because with art direction and creative discretion are required even for AI’s variability. When technology becomes more available in our everyday lives and moves more in social networks, it will boost and forever change the entire creative industry and consumer experience.

Kachorovska AW22.23 – Courtesy Kiko Gaspar Communications

“We Speak Shoes”
The brands core message “We Speak Shoes” communicates directly to footwear loving women of all ages and with its unique craftsmanship the brand will deliver its designs to ladies around the globe.

The brand’s message, “We speak shoes,” is about its unique understanding of the shoes as a product and the needs of their shoe-loving customers, elevated to the whole language! The new campaign represents a new form of communication — relentless, ever-changing artforms of oneself, manifested daily in our appearances and social interactions. The campaign keywords are Transformation and Technology, which in this case, is mighty AI.

Alina Kachorovska focal point for her footwear brand is on fit and from measuring more than 40,000 clients’ feet which awards the company an expert understanding of the anatomy and structural unity to deliver their customers a perfect match of style and comfort.

Kachorovska Atelier –

The brand focuses on high quality craftsmanship, environmental sustainability, a fair price, diversity, and an inspiring work environment for all its 150 employees. During this challenging time, KACHOROVSKA turned its local success into support power for the country’s economy and took the risk to realize its global ambitions by expanding and launching to international markets. The brand is currently negotiating its first large wholesale orders for two of the largest fashion retailers in the USA and Canada.

BOILER PLATE

KACHOROVSKA footwear brand has the beginning with Alina’s grandmother started making shoes in Ukraine. One of them, Pelznickel (“Nicholas in furs”), became known as Belsnickle in Pennsylvania while another, Christkindl (“Christ child”), became known as Kriss Kringle (more commonly written as “Kris” today).
– The name “Santeclaus,” the bearded German gift-giver who descended down the chimney and left gifts in stockings on Christmas and a sleigh pulled by a flying reindeer were united in 1821 by publisher William B. Gilley in a book called The Children’s Friend, which disappeared from history until it was rediscovered in 1953.
-And so much more.

Ultimately, Santa Claus Worldwide proves, conclusively, the existence of Santa and his impact on our world.

“Santa indisputably exists as the symbol of Christmas, and Christmas represents our most noble virtues,” Jerman says. “Symbols are real, and they can be very powerful.”

About the Author
Tom A. Jerman, a resident of Asheville, N.C., has bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and journalism and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Utah. Employed as a copy editor with The Salt Lake Tribune between 1974-78, he went on to practice labor and employment law for 35 years. In 2015, he took early retirement to pursue his desire to write something more interesting and enduring than legal treatises.

A serious collector, Jerman has amassed some 4,500 Santa figurines and ornaments, and thousands of antique postcards printed between 1900 and 1910. The enormous diversity of figures — temporal, geographic, historical, size, attire, date of gift-giving, mode of travel — prompted him to write Santa Claus Worldwide, the first volume of a planned trilogy that will include a volume on the authorship of “The Night Before Christmas” and a volume on collecting Santa Claus figurines. If all goes according to plan, the second volume will be published in winter 2023, the bicentennial of “The Night Before Christmas.” The third volume, currently under construction, will be a guide for individuals who collect Santa Claus figurines and ornaments.

For more information, please visit acollectionofsantas.com, or follow the author on Twitter at @tomajerman.

Santa Claus Worldwide: A History of St. Nicholas and Other Midwinter Gift-Bringers
Publisher: McFarland & Co.
ISBN-10: ‎1476680930
ISBN-13: ‎978-1476680934
Available from Amazon.com, BN.com and other online retailers

FAVOURITE FESTIVE FORKFUL REVEALED
MEAT, POTATO AND STUFFING COMBINE TO CREATE THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS DINNER FORKFUL
• ROAST POTATO NO LONGER THE UK’S FAVOURITE PART OF CHRISTMAS DINNER, AS MEAT TAKES OVER
• JUST 14% BELIEVE YORKSHIRE PUDDING DOESN’T BELONG WITH CHRISTMAS DINNER
• LONDONERS PREFER CHICKEN TO TURKEY FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER

Turkey, roast potato and stuffing combine to make the perfect Christmas dinner forkful, according to new national research.

The study, conducted by online food ordering app, Foodhub, chewed over the nation’s festive foodie favourites ahead of this Christmas.

When asked which three ingredients combine to make the perfect forkful of Christmas dinner, Turkey (42%) roast potato (35%) and stuffing (30%) came out on top, with pigs in blankets (28%) missing out on the favoured mouthful.

Last year, Foodhub’s research discovered roast potato was the king of the Christmas dinner, with 57% opting for roasties as their favourite element. However, the spud has been knocked off top spot this year, as meat (18%), whether that be turkey, ham or chicken, has been named number one.

Festive favourite pigs in blankets followed narrowly behind taking 17%, while last year’s winner, potato (12%), rounded off the top three.

And in the classic debate, the UK has decided a Yorkshire pudding does belong with Christmas dinner, with just 14% saying they don’t treat themselves to a yorkie on Christmas Day.

While the turkey tradition seems set to continue, as 40% opted for the meat as their preference on Christmas Day, alternatives are on the rise, with a quarter of Brits (24%) choosing chicken as their Christmas meat and veggies taking up 7% of the vote.

In London however, turkey is on the decline, just 31% sticking with tradition, compared to 37% naming chicken their go to Christmas dinner meat.

What’s more, Yorkshire natives seem to have abandoned their own delicacy, with just 9% from the region naming a Yorkshire Pudding their favourite Christmas dinner element. The Scottish (16%) are the biggest Yorkshire pudding fans in the UK.

Emma Stockman, spokesperson for Foodhub, said: “We know people love this time of year, and one of the biggest parts of Christmas is the lovely food.

“Our survey revealed that after spending time with friends and family, Christmas dinner was the nation’s number one thing about Christmas, so what we eat has a huge impact on the day itself.

“We’re surprised to see last year’s winner – roast potato – knocked off top spot, but perhaps even more surprising is pigs in blankets again failing to finish as the UK’s favourite, despite its celebrated status”.

To find out more and to order a tasty treat delivered to your feet, please visit the Foodhub website here: foodhub.co.uk/

TOP TEN ELEMENTS OF CHRISTMAS DINNER
1. The Esports Live Ticker will allow these platforms to start or improve their esports coverage through an easy to integrate esports scoreboard that will keep audiences informed about the latest matches played in esports’ most relevant game titles. This scoreboard will be free of charge, but can be expanded upon to meet the needs of a variety of different media platforms.
As esports continues to grow and to further expand its relevance, it has become increasingly important for media outlets that are covering sports to also look towards covering esports in order to be able to reach a younger demographic.

However, creating engaging esports content that this younger generation is actually interested in has proven to be quite tricky for many media platforms. With esports tournaments being held in a variety of different games and at irregular intervals, providing their audiences with an overview of what is currently happening in esports has become a daunting task for most. It is why many media platforms are struggling to start or improve their coverage of esports as a whole. Furthermore, creating content that goes beyond what any fan can see during the broadcast requires the content creator to have a deeper understanding of the game in question, as well as the necessary information and data to be provided to them.

The Esports Live Ticker intends to solve this issue and provide sports media publishers with an easy-to-integrate and expandable solution that will help them make the first step towards covering esports, or level up the already existing coverage. The Esports Live Ticker is powered by Bayes Esports, the world’s leading esports supplier for live esports data, and comes baseline with a scoreboard that will allow users to gain an overview of the latest match results in esports. This basic package will be free of charge and can be integrated within a matter of hours, giving any media publisher, regardless of size, the ability to try and bring a new and younger audience to their platform. Further premium content and services, as well as the option to upgrade to a media widget that allows access to more in-depth match data, can be subscribed to on a monthly fee, allowing the Esports Live Ticker to be customized to the particular needs of the customer.

Bonny Leyser, Head of New Business of Shadow Esports, stated: “We are delighted to launch the Esports Live Ticker. Esports has exploded in its popularity, but there is still so much that can be done regarding its coverage. Our Esports Live Tricker allows more media outlets to create engaging esports content and reach out to a new audience that is increasingly straying away from more traditional sports. The tools and visualizations we create at Shadow and that are available through the Live Ticker are a tremendous help for them to attract and retain first-time visitors. According to managed services provider Espria, millions of UK businesses are expected to be impacted, especially those who still rely on fax machines and landlines.
Andy Fung, Solutions Architect, Espria, stated, “Businesses need to address this issue now and avoid sticking their heads in the sand. It is going to happen whether they are ready or not. Decision makers should not wait until 2025, as exchanges are being phased out now.”
BT Openreach announced back in November 2017 its intention to switch off analogue and ISDN lines in 2025, affecting PSTN-based services and some broadband services. BT Openreach’s logic was based on the fact that since ISDN’s (Integrated service digital network) first iteration in the 1990’s, digital demands on networks for organisations and homes have changed dramatically, and the underlying technology needs to reflect and support modern requirements.
A rapid audit of your network is recommended to understand how many connections you have, of what type and what they are being used for. Leaving it to the last minute could result in increased installation costs and delays. Depending on the nature of your organisation, these could be anything from simple voice lines to DSL broadband, building alarm circuits or even all external connectivity to the telephony system in use.
“Organisations can get prepared for the 2025 switch-off because BT Openreach is taking a phased stop sell approach at individual city locations taking place between December 2020 to August 2023. Painted in Sorrel white and finished with Jacobean Oak, this design is a fine example of how a staircase can transform your home.

Neville Johnson’s Staircase Designer, Gareth Betts, said: “A bespoke staircase renovation has the power to transform your home. Using the structure of an existing staircase as a base, outstanding results can be achieved without the need for additional building work.

“An important part of any renovation is to ensure you’re aware of the key glossary of terms that will help you to identify the elements of the home that can be transformed.”

Gareth Betts, who also has 21 years’ experience when it comes to interior design and renovation, has shared his expert glossary of terms to ensure a seamless staircase renovation:

1. A newel post is a structural element that extends below the floor and subfloor and is bolted to the floor joist.
2. The string is the structural member that supports the treads and risers in standard staircases.
3. The baserail sits on your string and has a groove which accepts the spindles. Should you want a cut string staircase, there would be no need for a baserail as the spindles enter the treads.
4. The balustrade is the railing and baluster that prevents you from falling over the edge. It’s also the collective name for the complete assembly of handrails, including spindles and newel posts. These can be highly decorative; turned, carved, forged, or even replaced by wooden or glass panels. They sit between the handrail and stairs and are also known as balusters.
5. The risers are the vertical portion between each tread on the stair. In open plan properties, this section can be missing.

With over 35 years’ experience in designing staircases, Neville Johnson is the market leader in bespoke home renovations. The brand’s furniture renovations combine the flair of the UK’s top designers with the time-honoured skills of traditional craftsmen, all brought together with your personal selection of materials, colours, and finishes.

The Top Wellness Travel Trends for 2023

Health and Fitness Travel, the wellness holiday specialists has compiled their predictions for the trends set to dominate the wellness travel industry in 2023 and the best destinations to visit to experience these emerging health-enhancing trends. It also appears to be a strategy to develop a healthier, and more nutritional diet, 39% of people in a recent survey planned to eat more vegetables on a plant-based diet.1 With more information increasingly being spread and consciousness to animal cruelty, by the animal product industry, is playing a larger role on morality with diet choices. Currently, it is assumed that 6% of Brits are vegetarian with 6.5 million Brits planning to convert in the future.2 Therefore, there will be a greater demand for learning how to maintain a nutritionally dense plant-based diet and more resorts catering to this with their menus and retreat offerings in 2023.

Top 3 Destinations: Raw Food Detox at Sianji Well-Being Resort, Detox at the Farm at San Benito, All- Inclusive Wellness Retreat at Phuket Cleanse
Animal Therapy Retreats

It has been found that being around animals can be hugely beneficial to mental health. Particularly in easing anxiety.3 Animal therapy can be used to target a range of factors in your life, depending on your personalised intentions for your retreat. It has been proven to provide comfort, reduce levels of pain, improve movement or motor skills, develop social skills, and increase motivation.4 Retreats don’t have to be completely rounded to animal therapy singularly however, the company of other creatures amongst other activities is still greatly advantageous. Whether it be a wellness tour, an adventure or sailing with the participation of snorkeling, a natural increase in mood is vital in a modern world where it is mainly appreciated through a phone.

Top 3 Destinations: Active Tour – Galapagos, Sailing Tour – Maldives, Wellness Tour – Iceland

Air-Free Travel

The effects of modern civilization, the abuse of fossil fuels, contribution to the ozone layer, and catastrophic effects on climate change; a desperation to be more eco-friendly and concern over preserving the environment, has unsurprising influenced travellers’ attitude to traveling. Furthermore, surveys from YouGov has shown that 53% of global consumers are seeking more sustainable travel options for their holidays.5 Although, travelling does not have to leave you with a guilty conscious, air-free travel is not only an accessible alternative form of travelling but it can be as memorable as the holiday. The embrace of slower travels makes the journey to luxury resorts all that more special.

Top 3 Destinations: Gleneagles, Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda, Grantley Hall

Affordable Retreats

In the current cost of living crisis, for many holidays are last on the agenda when considering where to budget their money. One in three Britons have the intention to cut holiday spending as living costs continue to rise.6 This makes a change from the rush of holiday goers in 2022 being twice the amount of 2021 with the release of travelling restrictions post-covid. But even with the influx of daily expenditure pricing, many are still eager to get a holiday but are looking for cheaper options to accommodate their reduced disposable income. Research by LinkedIn found that 39% of adults in the UK have worked from holiday in 2022 and 28% found that it positively affected their work ethic.7 The repetitive nature of working from home online has contributed to people’s angst to work in a change of environment. As the saying goes ‘change is greater than a rest’, it is therefore unsurprising as to why workcations were so popular in 2022 and looks like a trend that will continue to reign in 2023.

Top Destinations: Wellbeing Sabbatical at Kamalaya, Lifestyle Change at Absolute Sanctuary, New Life at Longevity Health & Wellness.

Addiction Retreats

So much of our time today is spent online. It is currently available for £11.99 on both PlayStation and Microsoft Stores.

The worsening cost-of-living crisis will mean that frequent gamers will need to change their behaviour when it comes to making their favourite hobby more affordable.

Despite this, when it comes to cutting costs on video games, there has been no differentiation in cost regarding physical and digital copies. For example, the most recent game from the Pokémon series starts at £49.99 for a physical copy, and the same for a digital download code, on the Nintendo Online Store and Nintendo eShop. This could potentially explain the games’ drop in sales, despite only being released two weeks ago. Consumers would expect a difference in pricing for digital and physical copies, due to fewer materials and shipping required.

However, digital distribution stores do offer discounts and have frequent sales on their stores and gamers should take full advantage of this.

Gamers should also look at smaller indie games, especially as they can be cheaper. Solitaired.com commented on this data saying, “Indie game publishers can create just us fun games compared to bigger publishers such as Nintendo, Konami or Sony. The only difference is that the majority of the time indie franchises are much cheaper and more affordable in today’s climate, and it is important to put a spotlight on them”.

Be prepared this Christmas with Billie Shepherd’s top gifting tips from how to gift the person who’s tricky to buy for, or what to do when you’ve forgotten someone on your list!

Billie was recently announced as Christmas Gifting Ambassador for Baylis & Harding, the first ever, and has launched her own Edit of beautiful Christmas gifts. Now Billie has released her best advice for gifting this festive season.

1. Make a list and check it twice….
“As with most people, my list of who I need to buy for seems to get longer every year whether it’s the kids’ teachers, friends, family – it can get overwhelming. The easiest thing to do is write up a list in advance and plan who’s getting what, alongside a budget of what you are happy to spend. Having it all in one place will help you feel more organised, and you can tick each one off the list when they’ve been purchased!”

2. Shop as much as you can online…
“I am normally more of a dasher, running around the shops last minute, but this year with a new house move and a new baby on the way, I’m definitely going to be a planner. A great way to get a head start is online shopping – it’s more convenient, you can shop around, and you will find more deals online than you will in store. You can get a lot of gifts sorted all in one go and you can avoid busy stores. My biggest tip would just be to check delivery dates, so you know they’ll arrive in time!”

3. Make it personal and think about fragrance
“I always think about what scents a person likes when it comes to choosing their present so you’re not just buying them any old gift set. You can usually judge this by the perfume or aftershave someone wears, or the products they have in their home.

“Take my mum for example, she’s always on the go, while always managing to remain glamourous. So, I like to think of a gift that allows her to unwind and relax yet still has a decadent touch. The Baylis & Harding Boudoire Rose fragrance in my Edit has the perfect floral scent in a range of relaxing bath soaks which I know mum will love.”

4. Save time and consider buying pre-wrapped gifts
“I love wrapping gifts for my loved ones, but a little hack I’ve learnt as a busy mum is choose something that is already packaged beautifully! That way, the hard work is already done for you and all you need to do is pop it straight under the tree. It honestly makes it so much easier and saves so much time. That’s what I love about Baylis & Harding, their gifts are so beautifully wrapped, that you can just pop them in a gift bag or box, and you’re sorted.”

5. Remember, a gift is not just for Christmas
“Giving people gifts is one of my favourite parts of Christmas, and I always like to try and gift something that I know someone can keep and cherish, something that will be useful, or something that can be used time and time again. It’s also nice to give gifts that you know could be put on display.

“I just love Baylis & Harding’s Light Up Crème Bath Bubbles Decanter, in my edit which comes in this gorgeous glass bottle which can be refilled with your favourite bubble bath and looks gorgeous on the side of any bath. I’m so much more conscious of giving gifts that I know will last beyond Christmas day and I know this is something that many others are mindful of too.”.

6. Have extra gifts on hand (just in case you forget someone!)
“No matter how much you plan, there’s always an unexpected guest or visitor over Christmas that you haven’t bought for. A great tip to avoid last minute panic buying is to get hold of a few extra stocking filler gifts in advance, that way no-one is left out.”

7. If in doubt about what to gift, go for something practical
“Greg is definitely the hardest to buy for in my family and he often gets left with gifts he’ll never use. If you’re unsure what to buy someone or what they will like, I always think it’s best to get them something you know they’ll use again and again, rather than a token gift that may not get touched after Christmas.

“Practical gifts like slippers or a quality washbag always go down well in my family, or sometimes it’s as simple as choosing a gift set with a fresh scent that they can use daily.”

8. Consider stocking fillers!
“The kids are usually the ones that get the most gifts at Christmas of course, as it’s such a magical time for them. While it’s amazing seeing them open any present, cute stocking fillers can be really special and they don’t cost the earth. Anything a bit fun and silly like dinosaurs and unicorns will go down well with the kids – especially Nelly and Arthur who love opening the smaller, more fun gifts on the day.”

9. Don’t forget about yourself!
“Obviously giving gifts at Christmas is what it’s all about, but I do think it’s nice to get yourself a little something too, or something for the home that makes you feel good about having guests round.

“I really love the build-up to Christmas, getting the house decorated and making sure everything is festive, so I do like to get myself a few special handwashes and hand lotions to put around the house. It’s just that extra finishing touch that makes the house feel really Christmassy.”

TOP REASONS TO CELEBRATE NEW YEAR IN THE COASTAL CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

29 November 2022: With a cool cocktail bar scene, some pumping clubs and spectacular waterfront fireworks, Southampton is a great place to see in 2023.
