This would complete the first half of the season and Limavady knew they would face a tough encounter.

The game was barely three minutes old when Academy took the lead following a rolling maul. This is their strength in keeping the ball within the pack and prop, Chris Nash was able to crash over. The game continued in much the same vein with both packs vying against each other. As the first half was coming towards a close Limavady managed to get back on level terms as Stuart Simpson crashed over. Peter Wilson converted to give his side the lead. Penalties were exchanged to leave the half time score 10.8 in Limavady’s favour.

The second half was very much same again with both sides trying to get the better of each other. On 60 minutes Limavady managed to stretch the lead when centre, Jamie Miller found a gap in the home defence as he dived in to score. Peter again converted. Academy put in a great effort trying to get even however Limavady’s defence held strong. The only other scoring was another penalty from Academy’s out-half.

Limavady were glad to hear the final whistle and thus claim the winning points and keeping their unbeaten record this year intact. This was a scrappy affair but all that really mattered was the end result.

Academy 11 Limavady 17

Limavady 2nds were also in action as they travelled to Belfast to take on their counterparts at CIYMS. This proved to be another low scoring game with CI running out triumphant by 15 points to 8. Limavady’s points scorers came from a try by Matthew King and a penalty from Luke Gilfillan.

Report by Trevor Wilson
Photos by Steve Haslett

Match Report Academy v Limavady Saturday, 11th December 2021 Limavady travelled to Mallusk on Saturday to take on an Academy side which has shown great improvement over the last few weeks.
