It led an explosion of pop-art style skateboarding graphics at the end of the 1980s and into the 90s, stocked by iconic skate store Slam City, and worn by celebrities from the late movie-star Robin Williams to UK pop acts Jesus Jones and EMF.<\/p>\n<p>Wells was a key figure UK skateboarding culture and competing internationally, when Insane grew in popularity. It was taken to Japan by Japanese musician, designer and producer Hiroshi Fujiwara in Japan and distributed by Slam City Skates in London. Exhibiting paintings, drawings, collage and character sculptures since the early 1990s,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wells works are laced with surreal narrative and anthropomorphic illusion, woven into Insane\u2019s product collections.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Outside of Insane, he has provided solutions for brands such as PlayStation, Mars, and Louis Vuitton, as well as identity for independents such as Wiiija Records and The Idler magazine.
