A really difficult match had been expected, but, as it turned out, Portadown seldom troubled a determined Ballymena defence. The visitors opened the scoring when Rory Drysdale intercepted a floated pass to run sixty metres for a try which he converted. Shane McBurney rounded off a fine move for Ballymena&#8217;s second try, again converted by Drysdale. Both sides swapped penalties to bring the half time score to 17-3 in the visitors&#8217; favour.
