{"id":56031,"date":"2013-10-10T19:52:15","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T18:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=56031"},"modified":"2024-06-18T20:37:25","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T19:37:25","slug":"the-sports-technology-awards-launches-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/the-sports-technology-awards-launches-today\/","title":{"rendered":"The Sports Technology Awards Launches Today Very Exciting Entries Expected from Rugby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sports Technology Awards Launches Today Very Exciting Entries Expected from Rugby<\/p>\n<p>Today (Thursday 10th October) sees the launch of The Sports Technology Awards, which have been created to recognize the increasingly important role that technology plays throughout sport. <\/p>\n<p>A range of categories have been created to reflect the diversity of the sectors, spanning elite sport, leisure, disability, fan engagement, officiating and apps as well as the work done to embrace technology by federations, clubs, rights holders and broadcasters.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most recognizable faces in rugby are on the judging panel including international referee, Nigel Owens and World Cup winners Ben Kay and Maggie Alphonsi and former World Cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Hopkins, Director of the STAs, said \u2018Anyone involved in sport cannot fail to be aware of the influence and importance that technology now plays. Fans, athletes, coaches, match officials, the media, stadia, sponsors \u2013 they are all looking for ways to get more out of their involvement in sport and, increasingly, it is technology that is meeting their needs. Rugby has witnessed seismic change, so we look forward to some very exciting entries from this sport.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>STA Judge, Jamie Baulch, added \u2018As a former athlete turned sports businessman I have seen the sector from most angles. Indisputably technology is now an omnipresent force in sport and its influence will inevitably continue to grow.
