The Water Margin Early Bird Menu is brilliant – A 3 course meal from £10.95 PP

We begin here a series of reviews of local restaurants from around Belfast and Ulster which offer some the best food available.

First on the list for Chinese food is The Water Margin.

The Water Margin occupies the corner of Donegall Pass and the Ormeau Road.

Water Margin Restaurant
159-161 Donegal Pass
Belfast
BT7 1DT
tel.: 02890326888

The building itself is magnificent and upon closer inspection you will see that it was once a Presbyterian Church. It is a beautiful building and some restoration work carried out has revealed the original roof trusses and columns.

Apart from the amazing food there is a little bit of history in the religious past of the building.

Upon entering the restaurant we immediately noticed the size of the interior which is reputedly the biggest Chinese restaurant in Ireland. The space inside has allowed room for a pond with Asian fish and throughout the restaurant there are beautiful painted vases and pots combined with the original stained glass windows. There is a wonderful atmosphere. Karaoke available aswell!

Choosing from the menu was difficult as the 24 pages of dishes had so many appealing choices!

We opted for a range of starters and main courses including, Fried King Prawn with Salt & Chilli, Spring Rolls, and Wan Ton Soup. For main courses Chow Mein, Thai Green Curry and Sizzling Sliced Sirloin Steak with Water Margin Soy & Garlic Sauce. For desert, Deep Fried vanilla Ice Cream and Chessecake. Wonderful food!

All perfectly prepared, and served with various Sweet Corn Egg Fried rice and Boiled rice.

A superb meal. The food was absolutely delicious and we were so well looked after throughout.

The Water Margin is only minutes drive from Ravenhill and would make a perfect launch pad for an evening before and after a visit to an Ulster Game.

We look forward to bringing you further installments and updates from the Water Margin, and hopefully c u there.

Water Margin Restaurant
159-161 Donegal Pass
Belfast
BT7 1DT
tel.: 02890326888

As the colder nights approach and the rugby weather settles in, our thoughts are inevitably turning to hot and even spicy food!
