\nIt was a perfect day for running rugby at Portadown. A confident Quins 3rd XV arrived to be handed their new Power NI sponsored kit and expecting a positive result against a Portadown 2nd XV who were yet to win a game this season.
\nThe match kicked off with Portadown scoring two tries before Quins were to get any points on the board. Whilst the author of this report hates to be critical of Quins players in any way, poor tackling during the first twenty minutes and a lack of team cohesion was evident. Especially when playing against a well drilled team. It was very evident which of the two teams on the pitch do not train together yet hop to turn up on a Saturday and win a rugby match.
\nAfter twenty minutes the Quins players finally woke up & realised what they were in Portadown to do. Quins started to play rugby with a great display of passing and handling. There were several excellent passages of play with the ball regularly passing through the majority of the Quins players hands. It was great to see the Quins players response to what had been a very poor start to the match, when their heads could have simply dropped, they showed great spirit and determination coming back in the manner they did.
\nTackling improved immensely with the most notable tackles being made by Josh McKee at scrum half realising that the big Portadown players could do nothing without their ankles!!!!
\nUnfortunately Portadown did not sit back during the Quins resurgence and continued to score the occasional try one or two of which were excellent well worked tries. The Portadown team also tackled extremely well regularly cutting down the strong Quins runners such as Andy McPhail, Don & Ivan.
\nThis was yet again a game that Quins could have won if one or two last passes went to hand there would certainly have been several more Quins tries.
\nQuins came out second with one or two lessons hopefully learnt and the most important being \u2013 we need to train as a team if we are to be successful on Saturdays.
\nNo match this coming Saturday but lets get up and train on Thursday. The first twenty minutes of this Portadown match would not have happened if we were together for at least an hour during the week.
