After last Saturday\u2019s lacklustre performance when they drew 13-13 following the long journey into deepest Munster to play Clonakilty. Armagh were keen to restore their early season record when they illustrated their form by beating Ballynahinch.
\n\tThe local side was scheduled to play Sundays Well from Cork on Saturday in the Ulster Bank All Ireland League. Last season Armagh suffered a 9-6 defeat when they met this side in Cork so they had targeted this fixture to earn at least a home win! \"\"<\/a>
\n\tIn an effort to raise the sense of occasion, Armagh laid on the Old Boys Silver Band to entertain the spectators prior to the kick-off. In addition, the lord Mayor, Sharon Haughey, was invited to attend the pre-match lunch along with the club\u2019s core sponsor, Mitsubishi Electronics.
\n\tHe game kicked off in near perfect conditions in bright sunshine and wit a light breeze at
\nArmagh\u2019s backs. Within 2 minutes, play on the clock Armagh had the visitors pinned in the right corner. This led to a penalty when a Sundays Well player failed to release an Armagh forward after a tackle.
\n\tArmagh\u2019s newly acquired out-half, Dylan Ferreira, stepped up to attempt the difficult kick, but the Kiwi\u2019s skill became evident as he centred the ball between the posts. This was repeated 15 minutes later from a similar spot to open out the score to 6-0.
\n\tArmagh continued to pressurise the visitors until Andy Smyth forced his way over the line, yet again the conversion was on target. Just 10 minutes later James Morton announced his return to the side after his ankle injury with a try left of the posts. Again, Dylan converted to put the score up to 20-0. Just before the break Dylan landed another penalty to bring the score to 23-0 at half time.
\n\tShortly after the re-start, Richard Reaney demonstrated his speed and skill by breaking through the Sunday\u2019s defence inside the Armagh half and touching down in the left corner. Unfortunately, the conversion went left of the posts. Less than ten minutes later saw Armagh;s full-back touch down in the corner. While this try was important, it had earned Armagh the crucial bonus point, which will prove crucial before the season ends. To add to Sundays Well\u2019s troubles the conversion was on target to bring the score up to 35-0. Before the end of the game Armagh scored two further tries. Both Josh Morton & Mark Riddell touched down to finish the home score at 45-0. Sundays Well were, by this stage, beginning to flag but they never gave up and pure resolution led them to scored somewhat of a consolation try when their centre, O\u2019Mahony, touched down which outhalf O\u2019Riordan converted on the stroke of full time.
\n\tThe 45-7 scoreline certainly represents a significant step forward from last season\u2019s 9-6 defeat in Cork when the teams met last season. On Saturday the Armagh team certainly demonstrated that they are a force to be reckoned with and any side meeting then on the Palace Grounds needs to respect their skills
\n\tWith this in mind Armagh, entertain City of Derry at the Palace Grounds on Saturday in the Ulster Senior League. This side has proved to be somewhat of a bogey side in recent seasons and it will certainly be a very interesting game.
