{"id":28563,"date":"2012-06-11T08:37:17","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T08:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=28563"},"modified":"2012-06-11T08:37:17","modified_gmt":"2012-06-11T08:37:17","slug":"women%e2%80%99s-sportsnet-announces-the-women-try-sport-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/women%e2%80%99s-sportsnet-announces-the-women-try-sport-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s SportsNet announces the Women TRY Sport campaign."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Under the slogan \u2018JUST TRY\u2019 it aims to get more women active by PLEDGING to TRY sport.<br \/>\nFollowing the launch of the Women\u2019s Sporting Calendar2012 and concerns around short-listing for<br \/>\nthe BBC SPOTY award \u2013 the issues (access, availability, promotion, sponsorship, role models etc)<br \/>\nsurrounding women\u2019s sport have been highlighted by both the media and organisations such as<br \/>\nWomen\u2019s Sport &#038; Fitness Foundation (WSFF), USGirls, the Girls\u2019 Schools Association (GSA) and The<br \/>\nAssociation for Physical Education (afPE). WSFF research* has identified huge numbers of women<br \/>\nkeen to participate in \u2018Informal sport\u2019 and also some of the barriers preventing women\u2019s<br \/>\nparticipation.<br \/>\nNational Governing Bodies, Sports Clubs and Gyms etc are running thousands of events for women<br \/>\nto TRY sport over the summer &#8211; the Women TRY Sport campaign is bringing them together by listing<br \/>\nALL opportunities for women to TRY sport on one website www.wsnet.co.uk. Liaison with most<br \/>\nNGBs, sports clubs\/health centres and gyms, PLUS in partnership with the FIA, Women\u2019s SportsNet is<br \/>\ngiving access to local events for women and girls to TRY over the summer and generate soft Olympic<br \/>\nlegacy by encouraging Women &#038; Girls into fitness through sport.<br \/>\nSupported by SportsHeroines<br \/>\nAlong with NGBs, Twenty &#8216; SportsHeroines&#8217; &#8211; all committed to<br \/>\nthe Women TRY Sport campaign have offered their voices &#038;<br \/>\nsupport to the campaign \u2013 the entire England Netball team<br \/>\nhave added \u2018JUST TRY\u2019 messages to their Facebook pages.<br \/>\nSasha Corbin (England Netball) commented \u2018I am so<br \/>\nhonoured to be a part of this absolutely amazing cause \u2013<br \/>\nthis (initiative) has my 100% support.\u2019<br \/>\nNGB Initiatives<br \/>\nA number of NGBs are running specific initiatives to target<br \/>\ngetting women into sport \u2013 Touch Rugby, Rush Hockey, Back<br \/>\nto Netball, \u2018No Strings\u2019 Badminton, GO SKI\/GO BOARD,<br \/>\nBreeze Bike Rides, \u2013 which recognise an understanding by<br \/>\nNGBs of the appeal of \u2018informal sport\u2019. These events are all<br \/>\naggregated on the WSNet.co.uk website alongside many<br \/>\nother sports ranging from Softball to \u2018Roller Derby\u2019 through<br \/>\nto Dance and Zumba.<br \/>\nSue Tibballs, CEO of the WSFF said \u201cFewer than one in five<br \/>\nwomen do enough exercise to benefit their health, but we<br \/>\ndo know that nearly 12 million women and girls say they<br \/>\nwant to be more active. We support any initiative which<br \/>\nmakes it easier for women to sign up and get involved so<br \/>\nwe hope that this programme will help women take the<br \/>\nfirst step into sport and fitness.\u201d<br \/>\nLaunch 21 June &#8211; Wembley<br \/>\nThe campaign will be launched on 21 June at Wembley in<br \/>\nconjunction with the FA with an invitation for a number of SportsHeroines from a range of sports to<br \/>\nTRY Football under the guidance of WSL players. Zoe Wishman, Marketing Manager for Women&#8217;s<br \/>\nFootball said \u2018Women\u2019s SportsNet is an ideal portal for bringing women\u2019s sport together in a really<br \/>\ncomprehensive way. It also lists women\u2019s sports by \u2018Spectate\u2019, \u2018Participate\u2019 and \u2018TRY\u2019 with web links,<br \/>\nFacebook\/Twitter feeds, video and ticketing information &#8211; making sport more accessible to women.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWe currently list some 1500 \u2018Women TRY Sport\u2019 events run by NGBs, Clubs and Sports centres on<br \/>\nour website www.wsnet.co.uk &#8211; this is a free service\u201d.<br \/>\nWomen\u2019s SportsNet &#8211; is all about raising the profile of women\u2019s sport and the profile of some of<br \/>\nour great SportsHeroines. Helping women to feel comfortable and confident with sport with our<br \/>\nWomen TRY Sport Campaign (June 21) to hook up the zillions of women\u2019s who want to TRY sport<br \/>\nwith the thousand or so of events listed (free) on our website.
