{"id":272454,"date":"2017-01-28T22:18:45","date_gmt":"2017-01-28T22:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/?p=272454"},"modified":"2017-01-28T22:18:45","modified_gmt":"2017-01-28T22:18:45","slug":"danske-bank-ulster-schools-round-saturday-28th-january-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/danske-bank-ulster-schools-round-saturday-28th-january-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Round Up Saturday 28th January 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Round Up Saturday 28th January 2017<br \/>\nThere were games played during the week in various Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 competitions in the lead up to a number of Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Cup and Plate, Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate and Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Shield, Bowl and Trophy games, as well as a schoolboy friendly game, played on Saturday 28th January.<br \/>\nOn Monday 23rd January Dalriada School 2ndxv and Bangor Grammar School 2nd xv played their Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Plate game Round 1 game. The Dalriada School team won the game by 22-17.<br \/>\nOn the same afternoon Portadown College 3rdxv played Campbell College, Belfast 3rdxv in the quarter-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate. The Campbell College team won the game by 45-28.<br \/>\nOn Tuesday 24th January Regent House School and Rainey Endowed School Medallion teams played the replay of their Danske Bank Ulster Schools Medallion Trophy game. The Rainey Endowed School Medallion team won the game by 8-0.<br \/>\nOn Wednesday 25th January Rainey Endowed School and Regent House School met once again-this time in their postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Cup 3rd Round game. This game ended with another Rainey Endowed School victory-this time by 31-18. Playing with the breeze behind the Regent House team went into attack mode early in the game but found the Rainey Endowed defence unwilling to give anything away. A lovely break from David Dripps then opened up the Regent House defence. David found Karl Warner running a great support line and a clever pass put Karl in for the first try of the game. Adam Hunter added the extras to give the Rainey team a 7-0 lead. Regent House then responded with a Robbie Johnston penalty to reduce their deficit to 7-3. Adam Hunter then scored a try, which he converted, to put the Rainey Endowed School team into a 14-3 lead at the break.<br \/>\nThis became 21-3 early in the second half when a fine team attack was finished off by Jack Breslin with a try which Adam Hunter converted. The Regent House team responded with an unconverted try from Robert Hull to reduce their arrears to 21-8. The Rainey Endowed School team then extended their lead to 28-8 when Todd Smyth benefited from a strong carry from Bryn Davis to power the Regent House line for a try. Adam Hunter added the conversion and, shortly afterwards, a penalty to put the Rainey team into an unassailable 31-8 lead. The Rainey Endowed team lost two players to \u201cYellow Cards\u201d in the final few minutes of the game. The Regent House team took full advantage and ran in two unconverted tries through Robert Hull and Josh McFarland. These tries ensured the scoreboard read 31-18 in favour of the Rainey Endowed School team when the no-side whistle sounded.<br \/>\nThe Rainey Endowed School team will travel to play Belfast Royal Academy in the 4th Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Cup.<br \/>\nThe Regent House School will now host Coleraine Grammar School in the quarter-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Bowl competition.<br \/>\nOn the same afternoon the Coleraine Grammar School and Friends\u2019 School, Lisburn teams met in the replay of their 3rd Round Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Cup game. Most observers would have expected a Coleraine Grammar School victory once the previous Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rd Round game finished as a 10-10 draw in Lisburn. However, the Friends\u2019 School team defied the odds by recording a narrow, but well-deserved, 9-6 win. The Coleraine GS team adopted a \u201croute 1\u201d approach to this game with their star players Peter Weisener, Matthew Mooney, Max Bailie and Daniel McCreadie all carrying strongly. The Friends\u2019 School defence, well led by the outstanding Adam Milligan, was up to the task and the Lisburn team gave very little away. Their robust defence forced the Coleraine Grammar School team into conceding a number of first half penalties. Ben McCaughey converted three of these to give his team a 9-0 lead at the halftime break.<br \/>\nThe Friends\u2019 School team might have increased their lead in the second half only for good Coleraine defence to stop Bradley Mulholland and George Pringle just short of the whitewash on a number of occasions. The Coleraine Grammar School team was unable to create any real try scoring opportunities but did manage to gain a number of penalty kick opportunities. Ally Telfer was successful with two of these penalty kicks which left the final score reading 9-6 in favour of the Friends\u2019 School, Lisburn team. The Friends\u2019 School team will now host Grosvenor Grammar School in the 4th Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Cup.<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Cup quarter-finals two games were played on Wednesday 25th.<br \/>\nBelfast Royal Academy hosted Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Campbell College team won by 28-0.<br \/>\nBallymena Academy 2ndxv hosted Wallace High School 2ndxv in a game that finished as a 5-5 draw.<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Plate Larne Grammar School 2ndxv hosted Ballyclare High School 2ndxv in a game the Ballyclare High School team won by 45-0. The Ballyclare High School team had opened up a 26-0 lead by the interval with tries from Andrew Robson, Richard Whyte, Josh Cowan and Ross Patterson. Owen Hutchinson was successful with three conversion kicks.<br \/>\nAlex McVicker then scored two second half tries with Matthew McCullough adding a third. Alex converted both his tries to secure the 45-0 win for the Ballyclare High School 2ndxv team.<br \/>\nOn Thursday 26th January Dromore High School played Belfast High School in the quarter-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Bowl competition. The Dromore High School team won the entertaining game by 47-17. Dean Dillon scored four tries for the Dromore High School team with Cameron Beacom-Hurle scoring two and Adam Whitten touching down for one. Cameron Beacom-Hurle was successful with six conversion kicks.<br \/>\nOn Saturday 28th January there were games played in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Cup and Plate, the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Shield, Bowl and Trophy competitions.<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Cup quarter-finals Methodist College, Belfast 2ndxv hosted Down High School 2ndxv in a game the Methodist College team won by 19-13.<br \/>\nRoyal School, Dungannon 2ndxv hosted the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 2ndxv in a game the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 2ndxv won by 47-0.<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 2ndxv Plate Royal School, Armagh 2ndxv defeated Enniskillen Royal Grammar School by 43-5.<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate Ballymena Academy 3rdxv travelled to play Banbridge Academy 3rdxv and returned to Ballymena having secured a 43-12 victory. The Ballymena Academy 3rdxv will now host the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate.<br \/>\nColeraine Grammar School 3rdxv hosted Wallace High School 3rdxv in the same competition. The Wallace High School team won the game by 14-5. The Wallace High School 3rdxv will now host the Campbell College, Belfast 3rdxv in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate.<br \/>\nThese Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 3rdxv Plate semi-final games are scheduled to be played on Wednesday 1st February.<br \/>\nWallace High School played Cistercian College, Roscrea in a recent fixture the Wallace High School team won by 40-24. The Wallace High School points came from two Gary Dillon tries; two Matthew Miller tries and one try each from Jonny Hunter and Stephen Courtney. Conor Rankin was successful with five conversions.<br \/>\nThere was one schoolboy friendly game played on Saturday 28th January when Carrickfergus Grammar School hosted their East Antrim neighbours from Larne Grammar School. Both teams fielded U17 teams looking to the future. The Carrickfergus Grammar School team won the game by 39-17. The game was played over three x twenty minutes sessions. The Carrickfergus Grammar School points came through two tries from Daniel Curley; two tries from Adam Stewart and one try each from Rhys Willis, David Vance and Curtis Jenkins. Curtis kicked one conversion as did Daniel Curley.<br \/>\nThe Larne Grammar School points came through tries from Sam Wood, John Andrews and Morgan Wharry with John Andrews adding one conversion.<br \/>\nIn the 4th Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Shield Wallace High School played Sullivan Upper, Belfast Royal Academy played Friends\u2019 School, Lisburn, Campbell College, Belfast played Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Omagh Academy played Banbridge Academy, Cambridge House Grammar School played Royal School, Armagh, Royal School, Dungannon played Portadown College, Methodist College, Belfast played Dalriada School and Limavady Grammar School played Bangor Grammar School. The results of these games were as follows \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\nColeraine Grammar School 31 Ballyclare High School 0<br \/>\nEnniskillen Royal Grammar School 29 Ballymena Academy 3<br \/>\nFoyle and Londonderry College 0 Down High School 34<br \/>\nIn the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Trophy competition Ballyclare Secondary School played Lurgan College in a game the Ballyclare Secondary School team won by 32-3.<br \/>\nThe remaining three fixtures in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Trophy competition will see Grosvenor Grammar School play Carrickfergus Grammar School on Tuesday 31st January, Wellington College, Belfast play Strabane Academy on Tuesday 31st January and Carrickfergus College play Rainey Endowed School on Wednesday 1st February.<br \/>\nWhen the results of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Shield, Bowl and Trophy games came through the draws took place for the quarter-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Shield and Plate as well as the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools\u2019 Medallion Bowl and Trophy competitions.
