On a great night of intense excitement and anticipation the Omagh boys were selected to play Limavady during the half time interval in the Ulster v Ospreys game at Ravenhill on Friday last.
\nIn front of ten thousand spectators and under ideal playing conditions the Omagh boys took to the field exuding nervous energy. With adrenaline dripping and hearts thumping they charged into action from the off and gave the Limavady boys, a strong and physical team, no time to settle into the game. In minutes Michael Marechaux, the gallant Gallic, dived over the line for the first try.
\nThe Omagh boys excelled in the rucks and were seldom out of the opposition half. Morgan Bird\u2019s strength and determination brought the second try which should have sealed the result; instead it led to a moment of casualness which brought Limavady back into the match to make the score two tries to one. Fortunately, this was the wake-up call they needed to restore momentum and determination.
\nThe final try and the try of the night was scored by Richard Laird who broke through numerous tackles and touched down to rapturous applause from the good natured and appreciative spectators.
\nThe boys floated off the pitch on cloud nine with Daniel Monaghan sporting a bloody nose, his badge of courage which , after half a hour, he eventually wiped clean, reluctantly.
\nTo round off a wonderful experience the boys availed of the opportunity to meet some of the Ulster squad. It is unclear just whose autographs were sought \u2013 the Ulster men or the Omagh Accies!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
