Ulster Rugby today announced that back row forward Chris Henry has signed a two year contract extension keeping him at the club until at least June 2014.<\/p>\n

The once-capped Ireland international joined Ulster on a development contract in 2006 before signing his first professional contract with the Province in 2007\/08.

\nHenry made 29 appearances for Ulster last season, more than any other player with the exception of Pedrie Wannenburg who also made 29. His role as a key member of the team which reached the Magners League play off and the Heineken Cup quarter finals was recognised with a nomination for \u2018Player of the Year\u2019 at the Ulster Rugby Awards last May.<\/p>\n

This season, Henry was handed the captaincy by Brian McLaughlin in the absence of Rory Best and Johann Muller who were on World Cup duty for Ireland and South Africa respectively.<\/p>\n

On signing the extension, Chris said:

\n\u201cI\u2019m delighted to have signed the extension. It\u2019s something you have to think about hard but as far as I\u2019m concerned I\u2019ve had an absolute blast in my last couple of seasons at Ulster and this is where I want to be. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve dealt with Brian for a long time now since we worked together at Ulster Schools\u2019 and I\u2019ve built up a good relationship with him and the rest of the coaching staff as well. I\u2019m very comfortable being here and I get on really well with everybody. It\u2019s a really tightly knit group of players and coaches, and it\u2019s a great working environment. I\u2019m very excited to have got the contract signed and it allows me to concentrate solely on rugby for the next three years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the last couple of years the team have definitely improved and moved forward. Our success last year has really given us motivation to carry that forward and without a doubt I want to win some silverware in my career and that\u2019s hopefully where Ulster are moving forward to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenting on Ulster\u2019s poor recent run of results he said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started really well with our first three games and obviously it\u2019s very difficult when you lose a certain number of games in a row and confidence is down. But we\u2019ve got a lot of internationals coming back from the World Cup and we\u2019ve got a really exciting team and we\u2019ve just got to keep our confidence. Personally I\u2019m really looking forward to the next run of games and hopefully getting some good results.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ulster Director of Rugby is delighted Chris has committed his long term future to the club:<\/p>\n
