We explores the historic Cistercian ruins with  the lovely Abbey<br \/>\nRiver running  through them and toured the lovely countryside and<br \/>\nsea.shore. By mid day we were getting hungry, &#8216;it&#8217;s the fresh sea<br \/>\nair&#8217;, we were told by a local, and we were directed to Shannons Corner<br \/>\nRestaurant, &#8216;by popular demand&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Shannons Corner Restaurant is a bright two storied building  with<br \/>\nGeorgian windows and flower pots on very window sill. As we entered we<br \/>\nwere warmly greeted by the owner Mary  to a large farmhouse style<br \/>\ndining area with stone flag floors and  walls adorned with country<br \/>\ncrafts and portraits of local characters including the famous Rory<br \/>\nGallagher, who&#8217;s annual festival is comming up this weekend.  We were<br \/>\nseated on comfortable crafted wooded tables and chairs beside a stone<br \/>\nbuilt open fire place which added to the relaxed atmosphere with<br \/>\nmighty &#8216;craic&#8217; from the local characters.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/shannonsss.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.intouchrugby.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/shannonsss.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"shannonsss\" width=\"449\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13374\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We dined from a varied menu of salmon, gammon, turkey and ham and<br \/>\nfreshly caught cod and haddock from nearby Killybegs and with all the<br \/>\ntrimmings of potatoes, brocoli carrots and parsnips mashed just like<br \/>\nmammy used to make! The large portioned were  served on piping hot<br \/>\nplates, a must for my husband.
