\nOur first match of the season and it wasn\u2019t an easy day. The entire Cavan team looked bigger, older and better schooled. No excuses though we didn\u2019t do a lot right on the day. Some valuable lessons learned by the coaches and players. The game was played over 3 x 10 minute thirds, on a \u00bd pitch and was 10 a side leaving a lot of space which Cavan exploited very well, with 2 scores coming as a result of good running down both wings in the opening 10. It was Monaghan\u2019s rucking in the second third though that was most disappointing. We had been working on this in training in the first couple of weeks of this season but Cavan seemed much more dominant in this area. To be fair the final third saw some great work from a number of Monaghan players in trying to focus on making the tackle and holding on. This resulted in our joint player of the day award going to James McCaffrey and Aaron Treanor. A disappointing day though for a team that will only get better. On the positive side we had 21 players who made the trip and a lot of the new faces are already starting to blend in. Plenty to work on this Saturday at training \u2013 10am at home.<\/p>\n
