– England, Scotland reach first Cup quarter final of Series

While hosts and defending champions New Zealand recovered from an early loss against England to reach the Hertz Sevens Cup quarter finals in Wellington, the second and third ranked sides in the HSBC Sevens World Series were both knocked out of the Cup on a fascinating opening day’s play.

For the first time in the 14-year history of the Series, Sevens giants Fiji failed to reach the Cup quarter final stage and the Series’ second-ranked side France also missed out by losing a crucial match to Argentina.

At the end of a hyper-competitive pool stage, only Kenya, Samoa and Australia could boast 100% records. Both Scotland and England reached the Cup quarters for the first time this season to join South Africa, who only won one match but progressed on points difference at the expense of Wales and Canada.
