There were 2,170,537 complaints, up 5% on the first half of 2012. PPI accounted for 63% of all complaints, the FCA has reported.
The most complained-about firm was Barclays, followed by Lloyds, Bank of Scotland, credit card lender MBNA, and Santander.
However, Santander topped the list of complaints about mortgages, which had 14,080 complaints. Bank of Scotland had 8,627 complaints, with Northern Rock Asset Management receiving 8,312, Barclays 5,257 and HSBC 4,359.
