Rugby League Ireland (RLI) is delighted to announce our train on squad for the Regional Student Finals in Widnes.

Student Squad Announced

Twenty seven players have been selected to take part in the final preparations for the trip to Widnes which takes place on the 26th and 27th of March.

This will then be cut down to just twenty prior to leaving for the tournament.

Six spaces have been left open for players to prove their fitness prior to the final selection.

The squad includes experienced heads such as Joe Taylor who was capped three times during Ireland’s Alitalia European Cup campaign this season.

Taylor will be joined by ‘A’ team regular Darragh Williamson who missed just one ‘A’ international last season.

Speaking on the announcement of the squad Head Coach Nicky Howard spoke of his delight at the standard of trialists;

“I would like to thank all the students who attended the recent trials in Portarlington, we were impressed by the standard of players attending and the commitment during the intense trials.

“On behalf of myself and the student coaching team we would to like congratulate the players selected for the training squad for the upcoming regional competition in Widnes”

Howard also extended his thanks to Portarlington Rugby Club for their continued support of the students;

“I would also like to thank my coaching team for the work and help preparing the trails and finally I would to thank Portarlington for both use and the welcomed hospitality of their facilities.”

The train on squad will begin training this weekend in preparation for the regional championships.
