Rugby League Ireland Partner with Muscular Dystrophy Ireland

Rugby League Ireland (RLI) are delighted to announce a new partnership with charity Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI).

The partnership which will run for the remainder of 2014 will see MDI become RLI’s Charity of the Year as part of the organization’s new initiative to help other organisation’s.

MDI is a voluntary organisation, which was established in 1972 by a small group of people in the west of Ireland to support families who had a member with muscular dystrophy.

As part of the partnership RLI will be helping to raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy throughout the upcoming European Championship games in Tallaght Stadium.

Speaking on the announcement of the partnership RLI Director Richard Egan said; “We are delighted to partner with Muscular Dystrophy Ireland to help raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy. The Charity of the Year project is something which we have been working on for a while now and we are happy to be supporting a charity such as MDI in 2014 and we hope that we can help them to continue to provide services to people with Muscular Dystrophy and their families.”

Joe Mooney CEO Muscular Dystrophy Ireland said “ MDI are delighted to be chosen by Rugby League Ireland as their charity for the forth coming international series and sincerely appreciate the opportunity to create awareness of the condition and fundraise at the upcoming matches on the 18th and 25thof October in the Tallaght Stadium. All funds collected will go towards the provision of essential respite support services MDI strives to provide to 672 members nationwide”.

Mooney continued “ The Respite service provides a crucial break for both the carer and member. MDI aims to provide these short term respite breaks for members when required in order to maintain their physical and emotional wellbeing”.

As part of the partnership Muscular Dystrophy Ireland will be present at the fixtures in October where they will hold donation collections to help raise valuable funds to help them to continue their vital work.
