REPORT: Ophir 7’s Snr Day – Queens Obliterate all before them!

What a fantastic day everyone had at the annual Ophir Sevens on 21st august 2010!

It was definitely the rugby that astounded everyone, but the beautiful sunny weather did add to the sheer enjoyment that Antrim RFC, Lisburn & Lisburn B RFC, Randalstown RFC, Ophir & Ophir B RFC, Queens RFC & Ballyclare RFC had from 1pm through to the wee small hours!

Spectacular skills and excellent fitness showed that all that pre-season training has paid off. The teams that turned up were there to have fun but they were also there to win

It was all hands on deck to capture the action and between George Irvine, Mark Tumelty and myself we managed to get no less than 344 photos!

Queens were outstanding and very deservedly won The Will Totten Memorial Trophy. They played champagne rugby, free flowing, with all the skills. They put on an awesome display and we are looking forward to covering them during their AIL campaign.

Alot of credit must go to Lisburn RFC (fresh on the heels of their nation beating tour to Serbia no less)

who fielded two teams competing strongly in both sections with the Lisburn A side making it all the way to the final, these guys and everyone on the day encapsulate the spirit of rugby. Everyone was excellent on the day a big well done to Lisburn for playing some fo the best rugby of the tournament.

A word to the semi-finalsits Ballyclare who had won their section and Randalstown. Both teams were excellent and had won a series of games to bring them within one game of the final. They both had an excellent day as did everyone.

The majority of teams do not win titles as only one team can so we all compete becuase we love rugby and thats what was on display at theOphir 7’s. The passion that exists in grass roots rugby in Ulster for playing the game is brilliant.

A fantastic day and looking forward to next year.
