1st XV cut loose against Larne

1st kicked off with a lot of aggression and determination, on Saturday past. All players forwards and backs were sticking their hands up to carry the ball and get involved. John McFetridge and Nathaniel McCollum were to the fore carrying heavy ball and making yards with every effort. The scrum was explosive, whether it was Ballymoney or Larne ball, Ballymoney seemed to appear with the ball, and this was giving Jamesy Campbell, who had a very good game, a great platform to launch attacks.

The first try came from a Matthew Pollock break, plating up the pitch, were he showed great composure, taking on the Larne defense isolating a defender and a lovely pass to Joel Heggarty, for Joel to score running in from about 10 metres out. Rory Strang kicked the conversion.

Ballymoney kept piling on the pressure, and Larne were feeling it. Ballymoney scored again through Thomas Knight, with some strong running from forwards and backs with large running out of defenders. 2nd XV continue their winning ways

Strong final 20 minutes sees off a robust Randalstown challenge

With last week’s quarter final win against Larne firmly in the rear view mirror, Ballymoney 2nd XV took the field at Randalstown looking to continue with the form that has brought them up to 2nd place in the Junior 3 league.

Randalstown brought a big pack and a robust approach to the game, and the opening exchanges set the scene for the match that would unfold.

After an early exchange of penalties, Russell Irwin was first to cross the whitewash. With excellent phase play through the forwards drawing in the defence, the ball came wide to find space, and Irwin took a hard angle back in to cut through the defence and dot down…….
