New coach for Coleraine Rugby Club

Coleraine Rugby Football Club has announced the appointment of Richard Boyd to the position of Head Coach for the start of the 2015/16 season, in a three year deal.
Richard, 28, is a PE Teacher at Coleraine Academical Institution. As Head of Junior Rugby and Medallion Coach, in the last two years has won the Medallion Bowl and Subsidiary Shield. Richard has also had the opportunity to work with the Ulster Under-16 and 17 Development Squads drawn from all the schools in Ulster. He has coached the Ulster Under-19 squad and is currently the Ulster Under-17 Schools’ coach. This experience contributed to Richard gaining Level 2 Head Coach accreditation through the IRFU in Dublin.
At Senior Rugby level, Richard was previously Head Coach at Randalstown RFC and has enjoyed five successful seasons at Rainey Old Boys’ RFC. During his time at Rainey he consolidated their position in AIL Division 2B before going on to gain promotion unbeaten in the 2012/13 season. The Rainey First XV also reached the final of the Ulster Senior Cup during this season for the first time in its history.
Commenting on his new appointment Richard said: “I would like to thank Rainey for the opportunities given to me over the last five years and wish them continued success in the future. As a coach, however, it is important to stay fresh, immerse yourself in a new environment and face new challenges.
“Coleraine RFC gives me this opportunity and I am very much looking forward to working with the players and officials at the Club. A club like Coleraine has the potential, through hard work and commitment, to improve and consolidate its position in Ulster rugby and I am committed in my role as Head Coach to achieve this end.”
Cathal Carr, Coleraine’s Rugby Chairman, is excited by the appointment. He said: “It is a great coup for Coleraine RFC to secure a coach of Richard’s calibre to lead our club forward over the coming seasons. Richard has a proven record in his time at Randalstown and Rainey Old Boys.
“We are confident that his valuable experience of All-Ireland rugby will help bring Coleraine rugby back to the standards we have set for ourselves.”
