Letterkenny Beat Strabane

Letterkenny beat Strabane 24-0 in terrible conditions at Dave Gallaher Park on Saturday. Although the Strabane men started strong Letterkenny soon found their rhythm and continued from where they Left off in 2010. The conditions which were more akin to a water sport naturally suited the forwards which resulted in a very tight affair. The Letterkenny pack was dominant with Mark Scott, Brian Teague and Shaun Dunleavy using their strength to break the gain-line. John Anthony McFadden and birthday boy Jason Daly made break after break from the wings which was impressive given the conditions. The First try came from came from the back of a scrum in which Mark Scott broke away to cross from 15 meters with three Strabane men hanging off his back. Boyd Robinson converted. The second try came immediately after, following a magnificent kick from Damien Williamson to get a line-out five meters from the Strabane line. The Letterkenny men set up a maul and Mark Scott crashed over to get his second of the day leaving the score 12-0 at half-time. The second half began where the first left off. Boyd Robinson and Damien Williamson were very influential organising the pack and deciding when to run and when to kick. Rory McGonagle was the next to touch down from a maul which was very similar to the previous try. Although not a day for the backs to shine, they showed courage and commitment in defence. Andy Gibson, Derek Daly and Brian Peoples didn’t miss a tackle all day. Rae Clarke and Kevin Duran performed well in the Scrums while Conor Dunleavy proved his class in the lineout. Liam McGlynn was the next to get over the white line following a catch and drive from the lineout. Boyd Robinson converted to leave the game 24-0 to Letterkenny. Next up for Letterkenny is a game away to PSNI on Saturday.
