Enniskillen maintained their unbeaten record for the season with a hard earned victory over the visitors from East Antrim on Saturday.

‘Skins were on top in the early stages but could have fallen behind to a penalty, but the attempt was pushed wide. Fullback Chris McVitty did give ‘Skins a lead on eleven minutes with a penalty, having seen his first attempt strike the crossbar.

The first half was all ‘Skins and after a quarter of an hour a great run from winger Jason Wilson, slipping tackles along the way, brought ‘Skins deep into Carrick territory where after two excellent scrums skipper Ricky Connor broke for the blindside corner. Play was held up on the line after his offload, but Jamie Johnston picked up and dived over the line for a deserved try.

Carrick offered little attacking threat in the first half, but showed a complete change of fortune in the second. The start of the half was badly disrupted owing to a number of injuries, but when it got going Carrick dominated the game for a good twenty minutes, during which time ‘Skins David Buchanan was shown a yellow card following a number of offences by the team. Despite the pressure exerted by the visitors, ‘Skins line remained intact with some heroic defence.

Carrick would live to rue a number of penalty misses during this time and with their first meaningful attack of the second period McVitty slotted over his second penalty to push ‘Skins into an eleven point lead.

The final fifteen minutes saw ‘Skins in control despite losing a player to injury and the game petered out. Not the most inspiring of performances but the result more than compensated and the confidence in the squad remains good as the unbeaten run continues.
