Enniskillen Rugby Club Notes:

A patched up ‘Skins team, bereft of a number of regulars, battled hard but were unable to overcome a resolute Ballyclare side in a rich vein of form in awful playing conditions.

The rain was incessant throughout and the hosts’ decision to play the match on a mudbath of a pitch led to a match littered with errors.

‘Skins were unable to capitalise on an early foray into the hosts’ half with some good strong running but were awarded a penalty, however outhalf James McIntyre missed the opportunity as his footing seemed to go just as he was striking the ball.

Twenty-six minutes had gone before the first points were registered. The Ballyclare forwards retained possession in ‘Skins territory and after several phases the try, which was converted, eventually came with a dart around the side of a ruck.

The second try came ten minutes later and was created with sheer pace from the outside backs and finished by the right wing. This was also converted and Ballyclare held a 14 – 0 lead at halftime.

The game improved little in the second half and the elements continued to play havoc with the player’s skills and Ballyclare eventually sealed the victory midway through with their third try.

‘Skins continued to try and play the rugby that has brought them praise in recent matches, but the conditions didn’t help and at times the wrong decisions were taken.

There was nothing to ashamed of in the performance and many could leave the pitch with their heads held high, notably Daniel Allister who stepped into scrum half and acquitted himself well.
